What are some good examples of situations where smart people should play dumb?

Here is a story I heard:

Once a man goes to a barber shop, the barber told him, “see that kid, Everytime I give him an option to take either a dollar bill or a five dollar bill, he always chooses a dollar bill, no matter how much I tell him he never learns.” To prove it, he called the kid, and asked him to choose from a dollar or a five dollars. He chose one and left. The barber said “See, I have been doing this for 2 months, and he still didn't learn.”

Later the man goes out of the barber shop, and saw the kid having an ice-cream. He called him and asked, “Why didn't you take the 5 dollar bill?” The boy replied “The day I take the 5 dollar bill, this game ends.”

This is clearly one such example where playing dumb was smart. ;-)
