Inspired by a recent UK QSP Satellite meeting at Oxford University on 'Quantitative Systems Pharmacology: Is there a case for model reduction?', we are soliciting articles for a special issue at The Journal of Progress in Biophysics and Molecular Biology (PBMB) on 'Quantitative Systems Pharmacology (QSP): Methods and Tools'. Articles must be submitted by 31st December 2017 for a planned publication date of July 2018. Articles must follow the PBMB submission guidelines (https://www.elsevier.com/journals/progress-in-biophysics-and-molecular-biology/0079-6107/guide-for-authors), and can be original research or a review article. Specific topics of interest include parameter estimation, identifiability analysis, model reduction techniques, sensitivity analysis, virtual population studies in application to drug discovery, design and development. All submissions will undergo a peer-review process, and will be accepted if approved by the peer-review process. Please let editors know of your intention to submit by November 1 2017 with a brief description of your article (max 1/2 page). Submissions will be reviewed by the Editors for their appropriateness. If you have any questions or would like additional guidelines regarding the topic, please contact the editors.

Submissions of original review articles are now being considered for a Virtual Special Issue (VSI) on Current Reviews in Algal Research. The review manuscripts should focus on topics of algal research that are of specific interest to this community (see journal scope), provide relevant and up-to-date review of hot topics within this area, and develop a critical analysis of the research area and future developments/challenges to be addressed. All potential submissions need prior review and authorization from the Guest Editors by submitting the following information to the Editor-in-Chief via email:

- An abstract on the review

- An outline of the review

- A listing of similar reviews within this specific subject area that have appeared in the literature in the past 5 years

- A brief assessment of how the review will differ or pickup from the reviews listed above.

In the preparation of the review contents, please consider that this journal specializes in algae, therefore reviews need to be very specific and in-depth in an area of algae research that has not been recently reviewed. In addition, reviews need to provide a critical assessment of the literature, not a simple compilation of the literature. If your review is intended for a more general audience, it may be more appropriate for other journals.

A Virtual Special Issue (VSI) is an online-only grouping of Special Issue articles traditionally assigned to a single Special Issue. Each article in a VSI is assigned a unique identifier and then published in a regular journal issue as soon as available. The unique identifier allows us to simultaneously add the article to a VSI on ScienceDirect which is gradually built up as individual articles are published online. Articles grouped together in a VSI retain their original citation details. A VSI speeds up the publication of individual articles as, unlike the publication process for conventional Special Issue articles, a VSI does not need to wait for the final article to be ready before publication.
