About the position

The plasma for gas conversion (P4G) group is working on the topic of plasma conversion of low energy molecules into value-added chemicals by using low temperature plasmas. The research is focused on fundamental understanding of the dominant conversion pathways with the aim to optimize the con­ver­sion performances. The advances achieved with regards to the application of CO2 con­ver­sion allow us to move towards bridging the gap between funda­mental research and larger-scale industrial application.

The task for the new postdoctoral researcher is to develop and test a modular microwave plasma reactor for CO2 conversion with an oxygen separation step that is compatible with the interfaces of Fischer-Tropsch synthesis on an industrial pilot scale.

  • Design and development of a modular microwave plasma reactor for CO2 conversion

  • Identification, design, and implementation of a gas separation step for product stream purification

  • Execution, evaluation, and dissemination of experi­mental results w.r.t. performance of the plasma source and impli­cations for industrial applications

Applications

Your profile

  • Completed doctoral thesis, preferably in physics or engineering discipline with a background in plasma- or microwave-related applications

  • Working experience in design and implementation of technology for high-temperature applications

  • Relevant experience in the operation and characterization of plasma sources

  • Practical knowledge in the development of plasma and/or gas separation reactors is an advantage

Your abilities

  • Advanced capability to tackle engineering challenges involving high temperature (plasma) technology

  • Strong ability to conceptualize and design modular plasma reactors with gas separation steps based on lab-scale experiments

  • Eagerness to implement and bring these concepts into operation

  • High motivation to contribute to the usage of plasma technology in the power-to-gas context

  • A strong scientific track record, including publications in relevant peer-reviewed journals
