Ruby Granger
Things to do by yourself as introvert

Hello, it's Ruby and today I'm going to run through 12 idea of things you can do in your free time as an introvert.

extrovert
extroverted

(If you run through a list of items, you read or mention all the items quickly)

I just wanted to run through a few things before our show tonight.

03

I enjoy spending time with friends, but I also like to spend time recharging by myself.

recharge 既可以用作不及物动词,比如: spend time recharging by myself
For me, this is the most recharging activity that there is.

It was honestly such a restorative act! After being stuck inside for ages, it was beautiful to see so many people soak up the sun.
🪴 soak up the sun

And I feel like most ideas of things to do in your free time are social things. But as an introvert, I end up finding that quite draining .
🪴 find sth adj.

She must find training highly amusing, then.

I found it entertaining.

draining
It’s been the most emotionally draining , scariest time in my life by far.

It is physically painful for women, and emotionally draining for both sexes.

That girld's energy is so emotionally draining.
be physically and emotionally draining
也可以说 emotionally draining and physically exhausting
Care work is undervalued, underpaid, emotionally draining and physically exhausting.
Translation is undervalued, underpaid, emotionally draining and physically exhausting.

Teaching is undervalued, underpaid, emotionally draining and physically exhausting.

Translators feel undervalued, underpaid, emotionally drained and physically exhausted.

04

I have to curl up with a blanket, and a book, a mug of tea, maybe something to eat and just sit there for a couple of hours and read.
I'd rather curl up with a book, quite frankly.
I'm not getting my hair re-permed obviously because it's still curly.
She stops by the post office with curlers in her hair.
a mug of tea

🪴 for a couple of hours
a couple of sth

We’ve only been going out for a couple of weeks, do you think I gotta get her something.

He seemed very distraught. He knocked back a couple of brandies.

05

I feel like, societally, we think of social activities as being a kind of acceptable form of leisure activity, where it doesn't matter if you're not being productive, whereas as soon as you're spending time by yourself, it turns into you being lazy, misusing your time. I think that's quite an interesting distinction .

🪴 think of sth as sth 指「认为...是...」,和大家熟悉的 regard sb / sth as sth , see sb / sth as sth , view sb / sth as sth...

leisurely [ˈleʒəli] 为形容词,指「慢悠悠的,不慌不忙的」 (describes an action that is done in a relaxed way, without hurrying)
We'll go have a nice, leisurely lunch wherever the fuck we want.

Not many men can plan their exit from this world in such a leisurely way.
Societal means relating to society or to the way society is organized.
Mass joblessness exacts societal costs.
There has been a shift in societal attitudes towards pets.
🪴 spend time by yourself 独处
enjoy spending time by myself

Being accepted into such firms’ “translation groups” was a badge of distinction . Standards were high and competition for membership was fierce. It will not be in future, however.
Distinction

Hustle culture kind of convinces us that it's okay to spend time doing social things for leisure, but not okay to do things by yourself.
the hustle and bustle of the city

I mean I love the whole trend online of taking yourself on a date and I guess that this is just an element of that.
🪴 an element of sth 是一个词组,指「少量,有一点」( a small amount of a quality or feeling )
There is an element of truth in your argument.
All outdoor activities carry an element of risk.

But there's an element of shadiness to him.

07

Next you can make some bookmarks. This is so therapeutic and actually a good one to do with friends as well, like other introverted friends.

therapeutic
[ˌθer.əˈpjuːtɪk]  是它的形容词形式,指making you feel calm and relaxed,相当于我们常说的「治愈的,疗愈人心的」。

Painting can be very therapeutic.
I find walking my dog very therapeutic.

Meditation can help us embrace our worries, our fear, our anger; and that is very
healing .

I actually prefer going to museums and galleries alone. I do also like going with friends, because then you have good discussion, especially if they're also interested in it. But it's fun being able to take it completely at your own pace . And I also love writing up reflections and I like journaling after seeing these exhibitions, because then I feel like you get more and it's like having the conversation.
