问题一

enable/allow somebody to do something,

后面一般都是接比较正面的东西。

错误的例子：

smoking enables people to suffer from lung disease. （生病不是什么好事）

改正：

smoking is responsible for lung disease.

问题二

make it possible/ easy for somebody to do something,

后面一般都是接比较正面的东西

错误的例子：

advertisements make it possible for people to squander money. (浪费钱不是什么好事)

问题三

provide somebody with opportunities to do something,

后面一般都是接比较正面的东西

错误的例子：

错误的例子：the lack of education provides young people with opportunities to drop out of school. (退学是不好的事情)

问题四

it is easy for somebody to do something

是指做一个事情很“简单”，不是指“有可能”做一个事情。

错误的例子：

it is easy for young people to watch TV long hours. (长时间看电视不是什么简单的事情)

改正：

many young people are likely to watch TV long hours.

问题五

pose a threat to, give importance to, cause damage to, have a beneficial effect on, play a vital role in

这些短语的最后一个词都是介词，一般加名词比较多，很少加动名词，加动词肯定错。

错误的例子：

Education has a beneficial effect on finding good jobs.

改正：

education has a beneficial effect on one’s job prospect.

问题六

很多同学都喜欢用make, let，其实都不是很恰当，MAKE很多时候用强迫的意思，LET是允许的意思，可以使用enable, allow 替换。

问题七

人没有难易之分, people are easy 或者people are difficult to …都是错的

错误的例子：

people without computer literacy are hard to seek employment.

改正：

It is difficult for people without computer literacy to find employment

错误的例子：

people with computer skills can be easy to find jobs.

改正：

people with computer skills can find jobs easily.

问题八

it makes it possible to do something也是错的

问题九

something is helpful to do something or something is beneficial/important/useful to do something 都是错的。

因为只有it is important to do something或者 something is important to something

大家喜欢写something is important to do something是因为这是中文的直译

可以改成something can help somebody do something.

错误的翻译：

旅游业有助于提高人们的生活。

Tourism is helpful to improve people’s living standards.

改正：

Tourism can help improve people’s living standards.

问题十

it is important to do something 的意思“做什么事情很重要”，而不是表示“前面某事对这个事情很重要”

如果什么东西对什么重要，是something is important to something.

举例：

It is important to improve young people’s job skills. These skills are important to their job prospect.

注意翻译：提高年轻人的工作技能是重要的。这些技能对他们的工作前景很重要。

前者是一个建议，后者是一个因果关系。

问题十一

lead to, result in 后面只能加名词，不能加动词，动名词也很少见。

错误的例子：

Poor education can lead to children behave badly (这是个句子).

改正：

Poor education can lead to behavioural problems.

问题十二

it is helpful to do something 并不是“什么东西有助于做什么”的意思

错误的例子：

education is helpful to improve young people’s job prospect.

改正：

education can help improve young people’s job prospect.

或者 Education is helpful in improving young people’s job prospect.
