BBC: South Africa’s police minister has warned restaurants not to hide alcohol in teapots to try and get around a fresh ban on the sale of liquor.

［辞］注意区分 alcohol 与 liquor ，后者尤指烈酒。英式英语中，spirit 也能作“烈酒”解，常用作复数。词组 get around 表示“规／回避｛规章、限制｝”。try and 此即 try to 。try and do sth. 比 try to do sth. 更早出现在英文中，但现在多用于不正式的语境。

［译］翁译省略“赞成”和“反对”，但以“通过”暗示了“赞成”是多数票。金译“29 票反对”前宜补充顿号。“合法化”包含了 law change 义。机译“拉丁美洲最大的堕胎国家”让人以为阿根廷堕胎数量最多，而本句中 largest 指国土面积最大，金译避免了歧义。

［句］to legalise abortion 为后置定语，修饰 Latin American country 。largest 修饰 Latin American country to legalise abortion 。the law change 指代 the legalisation of abortion 。

［辞］legalise 为美式拼法，英式英语中拼作 legalize 。与 legalise 相对的是 criminalise 。abortion 的动词为 abort 。阿根廷国会（ the Congress of the Argentine Nation ）分为参众两院，众议院的英文名称为 the Chamber of Deputies 。the law change 亦可作 the change in the law 。votes in favour 相当于 votes in favour of the law change 。29 against 相当于 29 votes against the law change 。
