Description
The University of North Texas Center for HumanIdentification (UNTCHI) is an accredited forensic laboratory which is globallyrecognized as a leader in forensic genetics. The faculty of UNTCHI areassociated with the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS) at theUniversity of North Texas Health Science Center. The research areas within GSBSare diverse but with emphasis on Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, hypertension,heart failure, glaucoma, forensic genetics, diabetes and metabolic diseases,and the role of inflammation and oxidative stress in disease.
With funding support from the State of Texasand various Federal Government agencies, UNTCHI is a resource for internationaland national legal systems, provides forensic genetic and anthropological examinationsfor criminal casework and missing persons identification, and develops andmanages of the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) for theUS Department of Justice.
UNTCHI also is dedicated to the training ofstudents, postdoctoral fellows, and professionals in various aspects ofgenetics and maintains an active, innovative research program for genomicsolutions. Interdisciplinary expertise in forensics, genomics, multi-omics, microbiology,molecular biology, anthropology, bioinformatics, and other related disciplinesare available within the UNTCHI to support its mission. In the past ten years,all previous students and postdoctoral fellows of the UNTCHI have beenrecruited and employed by industry, academia, and government.
As the center is growing and expanding togenomics and associated omics research, we are actively looking for talented PhDlevel students and postdoctoral fellows interested in genomics, bioinformatics,or related fields. We welcome those young scientists that are interested inbuilding a better quality of life through research.
Qualifications
We are accepting applications from talented andenthusiastic candidates who are interested in an integrated andinterdisciplinary research laboratory system. A strong background in genomics,bioinformatics, computational biology, or related fields is preferred.
