当你想到经典电影《星球大战》时,最先浮现在脑海中的画面是什么?当然是光剑吧!相信许多人都喜欢光剑,我们在平时可以很容易买到仿制的光剑模型或玩具,甚至有些地方还开设了光剑训练班。但要是制造一把真实且能用的光剑需要什么样的条件呢
本文将从基础物理上重点讨论一下光剑的能量需求。它到底需要多少能量什么样的电池能满足它的能量需求?(至于如何制造一个能切割东西的光剑……我们先暂时不讨论这个。)
为了估算上述需求,首先参考《星球大战前传I:幽灵的威胁》中的一个场景:由连姆·尼森(Liam Neeson)饰演的奎刚·金(Qui-Gon Jinn)用光剑切开了星际贸易飞船上一扇厚重的金属门。这一简单的场景就涉及到不少物理知识,让我们开始分析吧。

功率与能量
在《星球大战IV》中,达斯·维达(Darth Vader)有句台词:“与原力相比,摧毁一颗星球所需的力量简直微不足道。”我们需要注意的是,他这里所指的力量(power)其实是军事力量(military power),而不是物理学中的功率(power),并且他所说的原力(Force)和物理学中的(force)实际也不是一回事。在物理学中,功率有着明确的定义:它是能量使用或传递的速率
我们可以用单位能量间隔  )与单位时间间隔  )来表示。能量以焦耳为单位,时间以为单位,对应功率的单位就是瓦特

为了读者对能量以及功率的大小有更明确的概念,这里假设你从地上捡起一本书,并把它放到桌子上。你克服重力做功需要大约10焦耳的能量。无论你用多长时间完成这个动作,所需的能量都是相同的,但功率会有所不同。如果你用10秒提起书,那么功率是1瓦;如果你只用1秒钟提起书,则功率是10瓦能量相同,但功率不同,很好理解吧。
有了上述定义,我们只需要找到一个能够在特定时间内估算能量变化的事件,就可以估算出光剑消耗的功率,这时候我们在开头所述的事件——奎刚用光剑切开金属门就可以派上用场了。
热能与相变

为了读者更好地理解金属门被切开的这个过程中能量的变化,我们在这里还要介绍热能与相变的概。在日常生活中,如果要加热一杯咖啡则需要对其提供能量,我们将使咖啡变热的这种能量称为热能。物体(比如咖啡)的热能变化取决于物体的质量  )、温度变化(  )和材料的“比热容”  )。

同样为了让读者对热能变化的大小有更好的理解,我们这里再举个例子。如果你有300克咖啡(基本上可看成水),并把它从25摄氏度加热到100摄氏度,这大约需要9,4000焦耳的能量,相当于你提起那本书9400次!现在我们对家里的咖啡机应该有了更多的敬意了吧?
但是,仅仅是增加热能可不能代表融化一扇金属门的全过程,它还涉及材料的相变,也就是从固态变为液态的过程。相变所需的能量取决于物体的质量  )和我们称之为“熔化潜热”  )的属性。

举一个生活中最常见相变的例子,将一千克冰块融化成水需要3.34×10⁵焦耳的能量,所以融化一个50克的冰块需要1,6700焦耳的能量,可见融化物体需要大量的能量。如果想融化一扇金属门,我们必须先将它加热到熔点再使其相变完成融化,这个过程所需的总能量取决于金属的质量和类型

估算光剑的功率
我们终于做完了以上所有的准备工作,现在开始估算切割金属门时光剑输出的功率。首先我们需要对星际飞船门的材料做一些猜测。按照现代科学来说,造一个巨大的飞船来运送战斗机器人,最可能会选用的材料是,因为它在重量和强度之间有很好的平衡。
幸运的是,我们对铝的性质很了解。它的密度是每立方米2700千克熔点为660摄氏度比热容为900焦耳每千克每摄氏度熔化潜热是每千克3.96×10⁵焦耳。(虽然这些数字看起来很多,但别担心,我们计算时只需要把它们输入计算机就行了。)
那么,融化的金属质量是多少呢?这是个值得思考的问题。在奎刚的第一次切割中,他切割的部分约2米长,虽然切割的宽度不确定,但我们可以暂时假设为1厘米,而门的厚度大约为5厘米。由于他一次性贯穿了整扇门,我们可以估算出融化的金属总质量约为2.7千克
现在,我们可以计算出融化这些铝所需的总能量,它包括将金属温度升高到熔点所需的能量以及使其融化所需的能量。(如果你想用其他金属试试,只需将上述的数字替换为你所用的材料对应的参数即可。)根据估算的结果,融化这些金属需要大约260万焦耳的能量!很显然,融化金属可不是件轻松的事。

光剑切割金属门,由AI生成

最后一步便是功率的计算,我们只需要确定融化这些金属所需要的时间。通过视频分析软件,笔者得出切割时间为11.5秒。这样算下来,光剑的功率输出为2.28×10⁵瓦,相当于305马力!这也相当于一辆高功率的汽车在你手中运行
光剑所需的电池
也许光剑并没有电池,在电影世界如此发达的科技背景下,可能它是从某个维度中直接获取能量的,谁知道呢?毕竟,光剑并不是真实的(这也没关系)。但是,如果它真的有电池,那会是什么样的呢?什么样的电池才能让光剑正常运行?
前文已经估算出了光剑的输出功率。现在我们可以根据功率计算出它内部存储的总能量,只需要再知道它一次充电能运行多久。在《星球大战》电影中,光剑从未出现过突然没电的现象,也从不需要插电充电。所以我们可以合理猜想,光剑的电池寿命应该是非常长的
假设光剑一次性可以运行10小时(这个估计已经是非常保守了)。那么,光剑功率为2.28×10⁵瓦特时,运行10小时需要的总能量为8.2×10⁹焦耳!这相当于提起那本书8.2亿次!
我们能用像手机电池那样的锂离子电池储存这么多能量吗?这些锂离子电池的能量密度每立方米2.5×10⁹焦耳,如果用于储存光剑的能量,根据我们之前的计算,锂离子电池体积需要达到3.3立方米!也就是说,电池的尺寸可能像一根4米长、直径1米的柱子,这就像挥舞着一根树干或者电线杆在战斗。
或许我们之前对电池的运行时间估算出现了错误,不过我们可以根据电影中光剑的尺寸,估算一下对应尺寸的锂离子电池能支撑光剑运行多久。假设光剑的手柄长度为13厘米,直径6厘米,那么它的体积约为367立方厘米,只占之前估算电池体积的0.01%,如果一切按比例缩小,那么这样的光剑电池一次只能运行4秒。这种情况下,在战斗中谁的电池更耐用,谁就赢了

显然,锂离子电池并不适合光剑。要能达到光剑的理想运行时间,我们需要能量密度达到每立方米2.23×10¹³焦耳(或每升2.23×10⁴兆焦耳)的电池。根据现有的能量密度材料表,唯一可能可行的解决方案是某种核电池或反物质电池。笔者对反物质电池完全没意见,虽然复杂,但是超级酷。
上述较为详尽地从基础物理角度探讨了制造一把光剑所需的电池技术。虽然以目前的科技水平,制造并量产这种光剑有很大难度,除了电池问题之外,还需解决其他多项技术难题。但笔者坚信,随着科学家们的不懈努力,将来我们一定能够将光剑制造成功。最后,让我们用《星球大战》中的经典名句作结:“愿原力与你同在!
