From 2022 to 2024, the rapid evolution of generative AI has transformed visual storytelling, advancing from pixelated images to lifelike, dynamic creations. This breakthrough technology opens new dimensions of creativity, enabling anyone to produce compelling images and short films, even without traditional skills in drawing, animation, or acting.
While generative AI democratizes artistic creation, it also raises critical questions about accuracy, credibility, data privacy, and copyright.
How does it work? What creative possibilities does it unlock?
What are the strengths and limitations of different tools, and what does the future hold for AIGC (Artificial Intelligence Generated Content)?
From December 15, 2024, to January 11, 2025, Goethe-Institut China, in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Education of the German Consulate General in Shanghai, will host
the
Generated AI Video Workshop Series for Beginners
. Featuring four distinguished AI artists and creators, the workshops will explore the creative and technical aspects of AIGC, offering insights into its potential and practical applications. Open to filmmakers, artists, designers, and media professionals, the series includes online lectures and one-on-one guidance.
The workshops are part of the "AIsolation – AIGC Short Film Competition", jointly organised by the Goethe-Instituts across Eastern and Central Asia. This global competition will launch in early 2025—stay tuned for further announcements!

Hands-On AI Short Film Creation

Workshop Instructor: Hyacinth
This workshop is primarily aimed at creators interested in participating in the Goethe-Institut's "AIsolation" AIGC short film competition. Participants should have some experience with AI-based creation. Creators are encouraged to bring their own AI short films (or prototypes) to the workshop and receive one-on-one guidance from the instructor based on any challenges encountered during the creative process.
(Beginners can watch the replay of the first part of the AIGC series on the "Goethe-Institut China" WeChat video account, study the content on their own, and apply to join the workshop afterward.)
