The conference was a brainchild of five eminent scientists, Professor Ken Wu of Taiwan, Professor Akira Ishihama of Japan, Professor Changwon Kang of Korea, Professor Padmanabhan of India and Professor John Pittard of Australia. These stalwarts recognized the need to create a forum for Asian scientists to share their findings and create networking opportunity to compete in the global arena. The first meeting was hosted in 1990 in Taipei, Taiwan. Since then, scientists from Malaysia, China, Thailand, Singapore and New Zealand have joined the rank. The spirit of the conference has been embraced by new generation of scientists.

This is a great networking opportunity as we always have considerable participation with over 100 participants from all 10 countries that includes aspiring students, young and senior scientists. In addition, the invited speakers come from United States and United Kingdom. Though, the initial focus was basic transcription, the conference has evolved to include both basic and applied transcription. The latter include cancer biology, antimicrobial resistance, developmental biology and biotechnology, to name a few.
