This workshop is a forum for exchanging ideas and methods for heterogeneous networks analysis and mining, developing new common understandings of the problems at hand, sharing of data sets where applicable, and leveraging existing knowledge from different disciplines. The goal is to bring together researchers from academia, industry, and government, to create a forum for discussing recent advances in this area. In doing so, we aim to better understand the overarching principles and the limitations of our current methods and to inspire research on new algorithms and techniques for heterogeneous networks analysis and mining.

To reflect the broad scope of work on heterogeneous networks analysis and mining, we encourage submissions that span the spectrum from theoretical analysis to algorithms and implementation, to applications and empirical studies is various domains. The need for analysis and learning methods that go beyond mining simple graphs is emerging in many disciplines and are referred to with different names depending on the type of data augmenting the simple graph.

The Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm promises to make “things” such as physical objects with sensing capabilities and/or attached with tags, mobile objects such as smart phones and vehicles, consumer electronic devices and home appliances such as fridge, television, healthcare devices, as part of the Internet environment. In cloud-centric IoT applications, the sensor data from these “things” is extracted, accumulated and processed at the public/private clouds, leading to significant latencies.

To satisfy the ever increasing demand for Cloud Computing resources from emerging applications such as Internet-of-Things (IoT), academics and industry experts are now advocating for going from large-centralized Cloud Computing infrastructures to micro data centres located at the edge of the network. These micro data centres are often closer to a user (geographically and in access latency) compared to the centralised cloud data centre. The aim of utilizing such edge resources is to off load computation that would have “traditionally” been carried out at the cloud data centre to a resource that is closer to a user or edge devices. This vision also acknowledges the variation in network latency from an end user to cloud data centre. Whereas the network around a data centre is often high capacity and speed, that near the user device may have variably properties (in terms of resilience, bandwidth, latency, etc).

Following very successful previous editions since 2002, the 17th ISPDC conference will be hosted in Geneva, just in front of the water jet. The conference will be devoted to a highly selective program for papers describing original and unpublished research advancing the state of the art in the field of new Parallel and Distributed Computing paradigms and applications. Parallel and Distributed Computing is today a central topic in science, engineering and society in the development of new approaches for the modeling, design, analysis, evaluation, and programming of future parallel and distributed computing systems and applications.

We cordially invite you to submit your contribution to the 17th International Symposium on Parallel and Distributed Computing (ISPDC-2018), considering our mission to bring together researchers, engineers, and practitioners involved in the development of new algorithms and architectures for parallel and distributed computing, as well as visualisation and post-processing. The Eighth International Conference on Information Science and Technology (ICIST 2018) will be held in Cordoba, Granada, and Seville, three pearls of Andalusia in Spain during June 30-July 6, 2018, following the successes of previous events.

ICIST 2018 aims to provide a high-level international forum for scientists, engineers, and educators to present the state of the art of research and applications in related fields. The conference will feature plenary speeches given by world renowned scholars, regular sessions with broad coverage, and special sessions focusing on popular topics.

Prospective authors are invited to contribute high-quality papers to ICIST2018. In addition, proposals for special sessions within the technical scopes of the conference are solicited. Special sessions, to be organized by internationally recognized experts, aim to bring together researchers in special focused topics. Papers submitted for special sessions are to be peer-reviewed with the same criteria used for the contributed papers. Researchers interested in organizing special sessions are invited to submit formal proposals to ICIST2018. A special session proposal should include the session title, a brief description of the scope and motivation, names, contact information and brief biographical information on the organizers.

Authors are invited to submit full-length papers (8 pages maximum) by the submission deadline through the online submission system. Special session organizers are also invited to enlist six or more papers with cohesive topics to form special sessions. The submission of a paper implies that the paper is original and has not been submitted under review or is not copyright-protected elsewhere and will be presented by an author if accepted.

All submitted papers will be refereed by experts in the field based on the criteria of originality, significance, quality, and clarity. The authors of accepted papers will have an opportunity to revise their papers and take consideration of the referees' comments and suggestions. All accepted papers are expected to be included in IEEE Xplore and will be indexed by EI.
