Position Description
Lab Website:https://www.labli.net/
Jinxing Li’s lab at Michigan State University is recruiting 1 postdoctoral researcher and 1-2 PhD students (starting Fall 2025). The main research areas include: (flexible) bioelectronics/brain-machine interfaces, (micro/nano) robotics, (sustainable) biomaterials, 3D printing, biosensors, and related fields. Students with relevant backgrounds in biology and medicine, neuroscience, engineering (mechanical/electrical/biomedical engineering/materials/chemical engineering), or natural sciences are welcome to apply.
English requirements for PhD applicants: TOEFL (80) or IELTS (6.5). GRE scores are not required. PhD students can apply through programs such as Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Neuroscience, or Biomolecular Science.
About the Lab
Lab Website: https://www.labli.net/
The Li Lab aims to engineer biologically interfaced machines—specifically miniaturized sensors and robots—that seamlessly integrate with and precisely interact with biological systems, advancing precision, ubiquitous, and affordable healthcare infrastructure. We are particularly interested in fundamental sciences that lead to new sensing and actuation principles by exploring the intersections between traditionally distinct fields. Additionally, we seek to develop scalable manufacturing methods to translate these inventions into widespread diagnostics and therapeutics. Examples of our work include soft bioelectronic neural interfaces for sensing neurotransmitters and hormones, microscale robots for targeted drug delivery, and soft robots for safer human-machine interactions.
About the PI
Dr. Jinxing Li is a Global Impact Initiative Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Institute for Quantitative Health Science and Engineering at Michigan State University. He is also a faculty member in the Electrical and Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, and Neuroscience programs. Before joining MSU, he conducted postdoctoral research at Stanford, working on engineering soft materials for next-generation brain-machine interfaces. Dr. Li earned his Ph.D. in NanoEngineering from UC San Diego, where he focused on micro/nanorobotics. He was a visiting scholar at Nokia Bell Labs, working on responsive biomaterials for telemedicine. Dr. Li received his M.S. from Fudan University and his B.S. from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, both in Electrical Engineering. He has published over 70 papers in high-impact journals such as Nature, Science, and Nature Biotechnology. Dr. Li is the recipient of NSF CAREER Award, Siebel Scholar in Bioengineering, Materials Research Society Graduate Student Award, Dan David Prize Scholarship, American Chemical Society Division of Inorganic Chemistry Young Investigator Award, and MIT Technology Review Innovators Under 35.
