考研临近，接下来一段时间，公众号的内容会稍微偏向写作。当然，这个专栏不仅仅适合考研读者，无论你是否备考、准备什么考试，或即使没有考试计划，都可以阅读，开卷有益。
在这个专栏中，我将带领大家阅读外刊，学习其中地道且实用的英文表达和句型，深入分析这些语言点的用法。同时，我会结合热点话题，运用这些表达进行仿写造句，完成“输入-输出”的闭环学习。
将外刊中的表达运用到作文中，不仅能让你在考试中游刃有余，也能在日常写作中得心应手。这些表达不会很复杂，保证阅卷老师能够理解（实际上，只要使用得当，阅卷老师一般都能读懂，不要低估他们的水平）。此外，我们的表达也不会像市面上的模板那样老套、呆板，而是从最新的外刊中精心挑选，确保语言的新颖性和实用性。
周三的《巴伦周刊》中有篇关于美国债市和股市的分析，标题中有很多值得学习的表达：
Stocks are falling. Higher yields weigh on the market.
The stock market has lost some momentum as earnings season rolls on and the 2024 election looms.
股市下跌。国债收益率对市场造成压力。
随着财报季的推进和2024年选举的临近，股市动能有所减弱。
yield在金融财经领域指“收益率”，此处指国债收益率。在金融市场中，更高的债券收益率会吸引资金从股市流向债市，从而使股市承压。
yield也可以作动词，yield to sth表示“被…替代、为…所取代”，在作文中我们可以用来表示旧事物被新事物所取代，从而体现出发展、进步、演变的含义。
举个例子，在“交通方式的改变”的写作中，我们可以用yield to表示传统交通方式被新型交通方式所取代：
As urbanization accelerates and environmental concerns grow, traditional modes of transportation have increasingly yielded to more sustainable and innovative alternatives. Electric vehicles, ride-sharing services, and even autonomous cars are reshaping how we navigate our cities and commute to work. This shift not only promises to reduce carbon footprints but also to revolutionize urban planning and infrastructure.
随着城市化进程的加快和环境问题的日益凸显，传统交通方式正逐步让位于更加可持续的创新替代方案。电动汽车、共享出行服务，甚至自动驾驶汽车，正在重新塑造城市的出行方式和通勤模式。这一变革不仅有望减少碳足迹，还将推动城市规划和基础设施的深刻变革。
weigh on从字面上看是“在…上面压着”，表示“给…带来压力、影响”，文中Higher yields weigh on the market意思是：更好的债券收益率让股市承压。
在写作中可以替换affect, have a negative influence on，但表达效果上weigh on更胜一筹，更加形象生动。
比如在“工作压力”“加班”“内卷”“心理健康”等话题中，我们可以用weigh on表示压力对健康的影响：
In today’s fast-paced world, the pressure to succeed has increasingly weighed on individuals' mental health. Many people, especially young adults, struggle to manage stress, anxiety, and the expectations placed upon them. This growing concern has led to a rise in awareness about mental well-being and the importance of addressing it.
在当今快节奏的世界中，成功的压力日益加重了个人的心理负担。许多人，尤其是年轻人，面临着管理压力、焦虑以及外界期望的挑战。这一日益突出的问题，促使社会更加关注心理健康，并认识到解决这一问题的重要性。
lose momentum 的意思是“失去动力、势头减弱”，常用来描述某一趋势、发展减缓。反义词是gain/gather momentum 获得动力。文中The stock market has lost some momentum的意思是：股市失去动力、股市滞涨。
在写作中，我们可以用gain/gather momentum表示“发展、流行、走红”的概念，可以表示某项科技的发展、普及，或某种方式、生活习惯的流行。比如谈到人工智能的发展：
As the 21st century advances, the field of artificial intelligence (AI) continues to gain momentum, transforming industries and reshaping the way we live, work, and interact. This remarkable technology, once confined to the realm of science fiction, is now an integral part of our daily lives, driving innovations from healthcare to finance, and from entertainment to transportation.
随着21世纪的推进，人工智能领域持续发展壮大，正在深刻变革各行各业，重塑我们的生活、工作方式及人际互动模式。这一令人瞩目的技术曾经局限于科幻的范畴，如今已成为我们日常生活中不可或缺的一部分，它推动了医疗、金融、娱乐、交通等各个领域的创新发展。
我们可以用lose momentum表示传统科技、传统方式逐步被淘汰，例如，在短视频的影响下，传统的文字阅读、深度阅读逐渐被抛弃，在这篇作文的开头，我们可以这样写：
In the age of social media, long-form content and deep reading have started to lose momentum. With instant access to bite-sized information, entertainment, and news, people's attention spans have shortened, leading to a decline in the popularity of in-depth articles, books, and reflective reading. This shift in reading habits not only affects how individuals engage with information but also raises concerns about the loss of critical thinking and the ability to absorb complex ideas.
在社交媒体时代，长篇内容和深度阅读逐渐不再受人欢迎。人们可以即时获取碎片化信息、娱乐和新闻，注意力时长逐渐缩短，对深度文章、书籍和反思性阅读的兴趣减弱。这一阅读习惯的转变不仅影响了人们获取信息的方式，也令人担心它会降低批判性思维能力和吸收复杂思想的能力。
roll名词是“卷轴”，动词是“滚动”的意思，roll on 像卷轴一样向前滚，即“继续进行，推进”，用来描述某个事件的持续向前发展。文中as earnings season rolls on意思是：随着财季报的推进。
roll on可以用continue, move on等替换，但roll on更加生动，带有一种事物不断向前推进的画面感。
在写作开头中，我们可以用as...rolls on表示随着时间向前推进的概念，比如，在“城市化”的作文开头，我们可以这样写：
As the years roll on, more people continue to move to cities, driving rapid urbanization worldwide. This trend has brought both opportunities and challenges, from economic growth and innovation to overcrowding and environmental strain.
随着时间流逝，越来越多的人口涌向城市，推动了全球快速城市化。这一趋势带来了机遇与挑战，既促进了经济增长和创新，也加剧了城市拥挤和环境压力。
loom 的英文解释是：to appear important or threatening and likely to happen soon 即将发生、逼近，相当于approach，但loom带有一种威胁感和不确定性，传达出一种紧张的氛围。文中the 2024 election looms意思是：2024年大选逼近。
loom可以直接放在句尾，也可以在后面加over sb，例如：
Vincent loomed over me, as pale and grey as a tombstone.
文森特赫然耸现在我面前，面色灰白得像一块墓碑。
在作文中，我们可以用sth looms over sb表示某种问题/危机迫近，比如在“气候变化”“自然灾害”等话题中，我们可以这样写：
As climate change continues to worsen, the threat of environmental disasters looms over global populations. Rising sea levels, prolonged droughts, and increasingly severe storms are no longer distant possibilities but urgent realities. These challenges require immediate global cooperation and innovative solutions.
随着气候变化日益加剧，环境灾害的威胁笼罩着全球人口。海平面上升、长期干旱和日益严重的风暴已不再是遥远的可能，而是迫在眉睫的现实。这些挑战亟需全球携手合作，并采取创新性解决方案。
再比如“萝卜快跑”迅速推广，引发出租车司机失业，在“无人驾驶”的话题中，我们可以用loom on the horizon (逼近、迫近) 表示无人驾驶对就业的威胁：
As autonomous driving technology rapidly advances, the prospect of widespread unemployment for taxi drivers looms on the horizon. This technological shift raises serious concerns about job security for millions of drivers worldwide, as they face the reality of their livelihoods being threatened by innovation.
随着自动驾驶技术的迅猛发展，出租车司机大规模失业的情况即将出现。这一技术变革引发了对全球数百万司机就业保障的严峻担忧，他们面临着因技术创新而生计受到威胁的现实挑战。
