Postdoctoral Research Associate - Job Description
Position Summary
Postdoctoral positions are available in the Cao Laboratory within the Division of Gastroenterology, Department of Medicine at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, USA. We seek highly motivated, creative, independent, and enthusiastic scientists to further our basic and translational studies of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
We study disease-relevant cell and organ signaling pathways in IBD (including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis) using molecular and cell biology, multi-omics technologies (e.g., single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, proteomics, whole-genome/exome sequencing, metagenomics), murine models, and human tissues. We currently have four major focuses: 1) Innate lymphoid cells (ILC) in murine IBD; 2) Innate immune mechanisms in perianal and fibrostenotic Crohn’s disease; 3) Multi-omics analyses of IBD-related complications, including Crohn’s of the pouch, perianal Crohn’s disease, and upper GI Crohn’s disease, and extraintestinal manifestations of IBD; 4) Biomarker discovery for IBD therapies (e.g., anti-IL-23s and JAK inhibitors) and diagnosis (e.g., fibrostenotic Crohn’s disease). https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/myncbi/siyan.cao.2/bibliography/public/
Our research program provides a highly collaborative and supportive training environment to develop and foster independent careers. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to use novel mouse models and cutting-edge techniques to understand molecular mechanisms with direct relevance to human disease. Responsibilities will include experimental design, execution, data analysis, and manuscript preparation, with ample opportunities for presentations at national and international scientific meetings.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent terminal or doctoral degree with experience in bench research.
Preferred Qualifications
A track record of scientific productivity is essential, preference will be given to candidates with first-author publications in high-impact journals.
Prior experience in working with mouse models of GI disease and/or immunology is highly desirable.
Expertise in basic molecular, cell biology, and immunology techniques including cell culture, flow cytometry, nucleic acid isolation, PCR, molecular cloning, Western blot, ELISA, immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence, and microscopy.
Basic statistical and computational knowledge.
Excellent oral communication and written skills, with good organizational and analytical abilities.
