讲英语时，最令人头疼的，是需要时刻注意时态的准确。汉语里，动词没有时态的变形，我们的大脑也习惯如此。但切换到英语模式后，马上就要在大脑里挂一个时钟，说每句话前都要对着判断一下发生的时间，以确定动词正确的形式。这让本来就处于高速运转的大脑疲惫不已，也难怪很多人都非常抗拒开口讲英语。
这不免让人好奇外国人的大脑是如何接线的，能毫不费力地在不同时态间切换自如。
可是，事实真的如此吗？
本文截取了一段即时的口语素材，是一位叫Betty的空姐在向听众描述之前在飞机上发生的事。
显然，她描述的事情发生在过去。
这段话非常简单，transcript在本文最下方，感兴趣的读者可以自己去看。
清理一下录音，主要删除
① you know等口语化的表达；
② 直接引用当时所说的对话；③ 当下的评论等。
剩下的句子，全都是Betty在描述在飞机上发生的事。按理来说，应该都用过去时，我们来看下这些句子：
一共19个谓语动词，用红色或绿色标记。7句红色的用过去时，剩下12句用现在时。当然在英语里，描述过去发生的事确实可以用现在时，但一般要求是统一的。也就是说，你要用现在时，那就一直用现在时，不能在过去时和现在时之间来回切换。考过雅思小作文的同学应该明白这一点。
这里显然不属于上述情况。
由此可见，老外在讲话时，时态的使用并不非常严格。
但是！！！
这绝对不意味着他们在随心所欲的使用时态。在这个例子里，Betty也只是用了现在时，而没有加入乱七八糟其它的时态。而
在描述过去的事时，偶尔用现在时可以突出现场感，戏剧感要强烈一点。
对于这一点，你不妨带入到上述的对话中感受一下。
这是不是意味着我们不用注意时态的正确性？
中国人对语法出奇的严苛，这也意味着往往对语法有很大的误解。实际上，在学习的时候，还是要遵循「一定要准确」的原则，尽自己最大的可能追求正确，这有助于习惯的养成，能力也会在潜移默化中不断提升。然后，如果是在具体的交流环境中，那么就应该把注意力转移到内容而非形式上，不必太苛求语法的正确性。要知道，语言本质上还是用来交流的工具。
另外，我衷心的呼吁大家，别人在讲英语的时候，不要过分苛责语法和发音的准确。这种苛求，严格要求自己就好。否则，下次当你说英语的时候，同样也会遭到别人的嘲笑。久而久之，就真的没有人敢开口讲英语了。

I was standing in the jetway, waiting to come home. You konw, sometimes, actually now most of time, we have different pilots going over and coming back there on a different trip. They are on a six-day or somthing. They are going back to a different city, so, you know, you haven't met them before. And I'm standing in the jetway, the cleaners were still cleaning the plane, there were three or four of us standing there, and this pilot comes up, you know, new pilot - I haven't met him before - and he sort of leans over to me and says "Yellow horses" and then gets on the plane. And I am, like, thinking "Yellow horses?! Is that some sort of code?" "Like, I don't know. I, maybe, Have I met him before? And we talked about horses? But there aren't any Yellow horses?" I was like, "that was, maybe he is just odd!" so he the same pilot comes back to the back of the plane where I am working to check the water and waste levels, and I say to him, "What were you talking about, 'horses'?" And he goes, "What are you talking about, 'horses'? " I am like, "When you got on the plane, you said, Yellow horses." And he said, "I said, 'Hello, Gorgeous!'" He goes, "I guess, I am not very good at flirting." And he walked away. And I laughed so hard! Maybe I need to get my ears checked, because I swear he said, "Yellow horses." And he said, "Hello, Gorgeous!" Maybe I am bad at flirting too.
