The Earth is facing the unprecedented impact of global warming leading to rising sea levels, but despite the dismal scenario, global green cover is increasing with much of it coming from China's massive afforestation drive.

Is the Earth getting browner or greener?
A paper in the journal Nature Sustainability reveals the answer: The Earth has become greener in the past 18 years with China contributing the most.
Data shows that since 2000, the global greening area has increased by 5.39 million square kilometers, of which China contributed a quarter. Forty-two percent of the greening in China comes from the growth of forest leaf area, which is equivalent to the combined growth in Brazil, Canada, Russia and the United States. Forests in these countries account for around 50 percent of the world's total, while China makes up just five percent.
