在整理这份片单的过程中，BBC 共收到了177条报刊、杂志或是各大网站的撰稿人、影视学者和策展人的来信。
而面对“到底什么才称得上是真正的新经典”、“现今的电影，有哪些能够和《教父》、《公民凯恩》旗鼓相当”，诸如此类的逼问时，BBC 的回答坚定而充满希望：
“当代电影产业，不论是大制作还是小成本，胶片电影还是视频，它自始至终都像从前那般欣欣向荣。但是今天，哪怕是非专业的影视从业者，也能观察到它变得更加多样化了。这也是为什么BBC文化版的编辑制作这份片单的原因。特别是来自亚洲的新经典的出现，同样是前所未有的。”
