Chinese Dumplings
Hello everyone!
Today, I want to talk to you about one of my favorite foods: dumplings!
In Chinese, we call them "饺子" (jiǎozi).
What are dumplings?
Dumplings are a really special and traditional Chinese food ,they are often eaten during the Chinese New Year and other special festivals.
Dumplings are like little half-moons .And they also like people' ears !
The skin of dumplings is made of fluffy dough.
First, you roll the dough into a long string shape.
Then you divide them into the same size dough balls.
Take one and roll them into a flat thin circle.Fillings are always mixed with mince, ground vegetables and seasonings.
Scoop out some mixtures and wrap it up with a skin.
One dumpling is done!
At last, you can cook them by boiling or frying. No matter how they are cooked, dumplings are always delicious!
Here's a story about dumplings.
Around 200 BC in a cold winter, medical scientist ZhangZhongjing returned to his hometown. He was very sad to see that the poor people lacked food and clothing, and many of them had frostbitten ears.
On the day of the winter solstice, he put mutton and some cold-warding herbs in the pot to boil, then took them out and cut them into crumbs, wrapped them in dough to form an ear-like "Jiao'er", cooked and gave to people to eat. After eating it, their whole body was warm, their ears were hot, and their frostbitten ears were slowly cured.
So,there is an old saying ,especially in the north of China: Eat dumplings on the winter solstice, keep your ears away from frostbite.
In any case,We believe that, eating dumplings brings us good luck and happiness. And the most important thing is that we make and eat dumplings with our families, which is a very very warm moment.
Ok,Thank you for listening, and I hope you all have a chance to enjoy some delicious dumplings soon!
