2023 年，中国科学的投入与产出持续向好，继续书写新篇章。根据国家统计局、科学技术部和财政部联合在今年 10 月发布的《全国科技经费投入统计公报》，2023 年中国研究与试验发展 （R&D） 经费投入保持稳定增长，投入强度持续提升。基础研究、应用研究和试验发展经费分别为 2259.1 亿元、3661.5 亿元和 27436.5 亿元，分别比上年增长 11.6%、5.1% 和 8.5%。
稳定的经济社会发展和持续增长的研发投入，为中国科学界的奋进创新提供了坚实支撑，注入了强大活力。中国科学家在国际知名全学科学术出版机构—— 细胞出版社 （Cell Press） 旗下期刊上的突出表现，展示了中国科学在研究活跃度、学术影响力、开放共享等多个方面的优异表现。
从学科分布来看，2023 年中国学者在交叉科学和生命科学领域的表现最为突出。交叉科学发文量突破 900 篇，生命科学发文量突破 600 篇，并且与 2022 年相比论文数量分别增加了 89.4% 和 49.5%，增幅显著。物质科学领域也稳中有进，发文量从上一年的 419 篇增长至 436 篇；更值得一提的是，中国学者在医学领域的表现日益突出，发文量达到了上一年的 2.88 倍。
科学的高速发展离不开高质量学术期刊提供的展示舞台。2023 年，细胞出版社旗下共有 14 本混合型期刊 （hybrid journal） 实现了中国论文发文量的增长。刊登在医学期刊 Med 的中国论文增幅最高，较上一年增加了 8 倍；此外，医学及生命科学领域的三本期刊 Immunity 、 Cell Systems 和 Cell Chemical Biology 的中国论文增幅均突破了 100%。值得关注的是，2023 年中国学者在 Cell 上发表的论文数量达到 47 篇，较上一年增加了 62% ；Cancer Cell增幅近40%。在旗舰期刊中， Immunity 、 Neuron 、 Developmental Cell 的发文增量均突破 20 篇。此外，中国学者还为细胞出版社 2023 年新推出的物质科学期刊 Device 贡献了 16 篇高质量论文。中国科研在各个领域全面开花，展现出了强劲的发展势头。
科学的进步建立在信任现有知识的基础之上。为建立这种信任，我们需要透明、易获取的科学信息。2023 年，中国科学家携手细胞出版社，继续为更加透明开放的学术交流添砖加瓦：与上一年相比，中国科学家在细胞出版社混合型期刊上、以开放获取 （OA） 形式发表的论文占比，从上一年的 68.9% 增加到 2023 年的 75%；论文篇数则增加了 91.7%。
2023 年，细胞出版 社旗下 42 本混 合型期刊均为作者提供了开放获取选项，同时继续保持期刊所代表的最高质量和严谨的编辑标准。其中既包括 Cell 、 Cancer Cell 、 Matter 等细胞出版社旗舰期刊，也包括 Med 、 One Earth 、 Device 等近几年新设立的深耕各个领域的旗舰新期刊。
