The sudden surge in fruit prices contributed 0.48 percentage points to the CPI growth.

The producer price index, or PPI, rose 0.6% year-on-year, down from a 0.9% increase in the previous month.

The CPI measures the prices of a select basket of consumer goods and services, while the PPI tracks the prices of goods circulated among manufacturers and mining companies.

China’s new Nasdaq-style high-tech board is making final preparations to commence trading as regulators speed up clearing listing applications.

The Shanghai Stock Exchange said Tuesday that it plans to do a final technical test run on the new board on Saturday.

Passing the test would mean the new board is ready for formal trading at any time, a tech staffer at a brokerage company said.

The Shanghai bourse has cleared the listing plans of a second batch of three companies, bringing the number of companies eligible for trading to six.

The bourse is set to review 10 more applicants later this week and next.

American chipmaker Intel is pushing the U.S. government to allow it to continue supplying components to Chinese tech firm Huawei, a senior Intel executive told Caixin at a forum in Washington.

Peter Cleveland, a vice president of Intel, argued in favor of discussion over regulation in dealing with the embattled telecom equipment maker, which has been blacklisted by the U.S. government on national security concerns.

Cleveland said, quote, “It's better to try to reach mutually agreed solutions to improve cyber hygiene versus taking regulatory steps that are so dramatic and impact the American company as well as the Chinese company.”

Google has also joined Intel in asking the White House to exempt it from the ban, the Financial Times reported last week.

The report said Google executives worry the ban will force Huawei into developing its own mobile operating system that, quote, “could pose risks compromising U.S. national security.”

That followed a 16.6% decline in April and a 12% drop in March.

Beijing has launched a sweeping survey of domestic rare-earth production, as industry stocks rise amid speculation that China could restrict exports of the materials as part of the ongoing trade conflict with the U.S.

China’s top economic planner, the National Development and Reform Commission, began site visits and meetings across the country on Monday to assess the “general upstream, midstream and downstream situation of rare earths and other strategic mineral resources,” the China Securities Journal, a publication under the official Xinhua News Agency, reported.

The commission, working together with other ministries, will use the investigation to prepare recommendations for the rare earths industry in areas ranging from “resource protection and green production” to “international trade and domestic and international cooperation.”

After a slow start, the China-backed Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank has ramped up the pace of lending since late last year, one of its top officials said.

The regional development bank, which specializes in infrastructure projects in Asia that might have trouble getting financing elsewhere, has currently made about 8 billion dollars in investments in 40 projects, corporate secretary Danny Alexander said.

Over the last six months, the bank has approved eight new projects in countries ranging from Indonesia to Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
