城市万花筒 | 镜花缘

6月14日至6月30日，设计上海设计节如期开幕，本届设计节围绕“无边界乐园 Hybrid Playground”的主题展开。对于参展设计师而言，每一件展品或装置也许就是他们日常工作实践之外充满了趣味、自由与实验性的“play”，设计节便是他们的“playground”；而对于公众而言，这里则是他们在城市生活走出常规路径，触达创造力的“playtime”。

From June 14 to June 30, Design Shanghai @ Xintiandi Design Festival has been held as scheduled. This year's festival revolves around the theme "Hybrid Playground." For the participating designers, each exhibit or installation represents a playful, free, and experimental "play" outside their daily work practice, making the festival their "playground." For the public, this is a "playtime" to break away from the routine paths of urban life and reach out to creativity.

城市万花筒是我们针对此次设计节主题提出的设计理念。整个设计是以童年的玩具“万花筒”为设计母题，希望打造出一个链接现实与虚幻、现在与过去的互动体验的城市艺术装置。通过看与被看的角色转换，内向性与外向性的空间转换，观者不仅成为了看风景的人，也成为了别人眼中的风景。装置旨在扩充人与城市之间，人与自然之间，人与人之间的链接，通过看的方式去发现城市不同寻常的美。

"City Kaleidoscope" is our design concept for this year's design festival theme. The entire design is based on the childhood toy "kaleidoscope," aiming to create an urban art installation that links reality and fantasy, present and past, providing interactive experiences. Through the transformation of roles between observer and observed, and the spatial shift between introversion and extroversion, viewers not only become observers of the scenery but also become part of the scenery themselves. The installation aims to enhance the connections between people and the city, people and nature, and among people themselves, discovering the extraordinary beauty of the city through the act of seeing.

从鸟瞰的视角来看，整个艺术装置犹如一个五角星形状的外星生物生长在新天地这片繁华的商业片区。都市街区人来人往，我们希望装置可以吸引经过的人们驻足观赏或从中穿过，体验镜花水月般的虚幻的现实感。

From a bird's-eye view, the entire art installation resembles a star-shaped extraterrestrial creature growing in the bustling commercial area of Xintiandi. Amidst the busy urban streets, we anticipate the installation will attract passersby to stop, observe, or walk through it, experiencing an illusionary sense of reality akin to a mirage.

设计原型为一个半球体，通过控制射线的方向和球体外表面相交，连接成基础的结构形态，在三维空间中生长出类似晶体结构一样“触角”，并置入不同种类的万花筒，最终形成了这个艺术装置。

The design prototype is a hemisphere, where the direction of rays intersecting with its outer surface forms the basic structural shape. In the three-dimensional space, it grows "tentacles" resembling crystal structures, incorporating various types of kaleidoscopes, ultimately shaping this art installation.

我们认为每一座城市都应该有自己的“城市万花筒”，去帮助这座城市更好地发现“自己”。结合不同城市历史文化的差异性，它所呈现出的形态应该是不一样的。“镜花缘”便是我们为新天地这个场域定制的“城市万花筒”，其中“镜”是交互，“花”是隐喻，“缘”是期许。

We believe every city should have its own "City Kaleidoscope" to support it better discover itself. Reflecting the diverse historical and cultural differences of each city, the form it takes should be unique. "Mirror Flower Fate" is our custom-designed "City Kaleidoscope" for the Xintiandi area. Here, "mirror" symbolizes interaction, "flower" represents metaphor, and "fate" signifies aspiration.

“镜”

装置内外表面采用镜面金属板，为了防止太阳反射眩光对周边居民的影响，在考量基地选址的时候，我们选择了放置于树下，并让装置尺寸和树下的空间完美贴合。虽然镜面金属板材不易保证其表面的绝对平整，但是在我们的设计中，这反而是一个优势，我们希望城市的光影经过我们的装置后，是被抽象处理过的，而不是一摸一样的真实还原，这也正是它趣味性的一面。

The installation features mirrored metal panels both inside and outside. To mitigate the potential glare from sunlight reflecting off these surfaces and affecting nearby residents, we carefully selected a site under trees. We ensured that the dimensions of the installation perfectly fit the space under the trees. While mirrored metal panels may not guarantee absolute smoothness, in our design, this imperfection becomes an advantage. We aim for the urban light and shadow to pass through our installation in an abstracted manner rather than a precise replica, enhancing its playful and intriguing aspect.

“花”

Flower

上海是繁花盛开的地方，充满朝气和活力。我们试图把这种生命力带到我们的造型设计中，通过发散的外型，释放出一种从内向外生长的力量，就像从城市土地里自然生长出来的一朵巨大花朵。每一片“花瓣”大小不一、形式各异，有的伸向了天空，有的伸向了石库门建筑，有的伸向了五光十色的商业街区，从表到里地加强了一个“生命体”的丰富度。

Shanghai is a place where flowers bloom abundantly, full of vitality and vigor. We aim to incorporate this vitality into our design by creating an expansive form that releases an inward-to-outward growth force, much like a giant flower naturally emerging from the urban landscape. Each "petal" varies in size and shape, reaching towards the sky, towards traditional Shikumen architecture, and towards the vibrant commercial districts, enriching the complexity of this "living organism" from surface to core.

“缘”

Fate

作为城市艺术装置，我们希望它不是孤立地矗立在广场上，而是要让它成为城市的媒介和催化剂，能够促使城市、自然、人还有光影等元素发生链接、融合，在一个特定场域内发生奇妙的“化学反应”，把多元复合的城市空间更好地呈现在观者面前，让城市变得更加美好。

As an urban art installation, we envision it not merely standing alone in a plaza, but rather serving as a medium and catalyst for the city. It should facilitate connections and fusion among urban elements such as nature, people, and light and shadow. We aim for it to spark a marvelous "chemical reaction" within its specific environment, showcasing the diverse and intricate urban spaces to viewers and ultimately contributing to making the city more beautiful.
