ThéATRE Tea Gathering is a modern lifestyle brand that connects drinking, eating, and art through tea. The "Shanju Tea Pavilion" series continues the previous concept of life and tea, hoping that people can feel the "tea eating" experience brought by cake while "drinking tea". The project site is located in the courtyard of the third floor of Sanlitun West District and next to the street in the south district of Beijing, aiming to allow passersby to pause in front of this "urban tea house" and savor the leisurely tea style lifestyle.
Our concept of "Shanju Tea Pavilion" originated from tea rooms. The architectural form of "tea rooms" serves as a carrier of tea culture, a functional place for people to drink tea, and also the experience we and the brand want to bring to customers. We consider the interior of Shanju Tea Pavilion as the birthplace of tea making and the dissemination of tea culture related snacks. At the window, we have given up some of the countertops for pedestrians to use, and used the original solid wood countertops as an outlet for tea culture to be transmitted outward.
The venue selection for this series avoids traditional rectangular stores and leans towards open areas such as courtyards/squares/streets. Therefore, the "uncertainty" of the site has become an issue, and using the "symbolism" of architecture to enhance the memory of passing pedestrians is the solution. To emphasize the singularity of symbols, the "Tea Pavilion" has been integrated on both the top of the slope and the windows. Bar counter - This area that comes into close contact with people serves as the boundary of the building roof, adjusting the roof height from only a small part of the main body in traditional architecture to a roof height: wall height>1, making the proportion of the entire tea room present a unique dullness, blurring the horizontal discontinuity between the eaves and walls.© 朱雨蒙,堀越圭晋
Material
In terms of material application, the project ensures the overall simplicity of the tea room. Considering the extension of the window eaves, customized diamond shaped metal tiles are used as the main decorative material for the roof. Metal tiles are mass-produced by factories, bendable and operable, making it easy to smoothly handle various curved surfaces. The interior decoration and some exterior walls are made of natural diatomaceous earth material, restoring natural simplicity with a rough texture. The window countertop that customers can touch up close uses solid wood panels with natural edges, allowing the natural traces to echo the brand's products and be transmitted to the hands of customers, providing a sense of security for every service window connected internally and externally.© 朱雨蒙,堀越圭晋
Reusable
We hope to have more connection with nature from a sustainable development perspective, so the design of each tea pavilion is reusable from structure to finish. To ensure transportation requirements, the structure is divided into various units and connected with connectors to complete the entire structural system. The interior and exterior decorations and props are modularized according to the size of this unit. The assembly of all units is completed in the factory to confirm the final effect, and then the tea pavilion is dismantled and transported to the site. The assembly process is repeated on site, which is a complete construction process.
The "Shanju Tea Pavilion" series of tea gathering venues is a community-based light business model that we have attempted with th é ATRE, forming "small base stations" for spreading tea culture in the city and providing a place for tea tasting and relaxation everywhere.
