1. Hollowing out MOFs: hierarchical micro- and mesoporous MOFs with tailorable porosity viaselective acid etching

Korean researchers report a novel strategy for the synthesis of hierarchical micro- and mesoporous MOFs from water stable MOFs. The process is via a selective acid etching process, which is controlled by the size-selective diffusion of acid molecules through the MOF windows. The synthesis of hierarchical MOFs can be fine-tuned by adjusting the acid concentration and treatment time, allowing for the generation of well-defined mesopores with high mesopore volume. This strategy may provide an alternative route for the synthesis of tailor-made hierarchical MOFs.
韩国的研究者报道了一种从水稳定的金属有机骨架(MOFs)材料出发合成具有分层微孔和介孔结构MOFs的新颖策略。合成通过一种选择性酸刻蚀工艺完成,由透过MOF窗口酸分子的尺寸选择性扩散进行控制。调整所使用酸的浓度和处理时间可以对分层结构MOFs的合成进行精细调节,从而得到精确控制的大体积介孔。该方法为分层MOFs的可控合成提供了一种新途径。

2. Linking the structures, free volumes, and properties of ionic liquid mixtures

Scientists explored the effect of forming ionic liquid mixtures on their structures and physicochemical properties. SAXS, PALS and 129Xe-NMR techniques were used to explore the spatial arrangement and free volume of the liquids. It was found that anion size has the greatest effect on the spatial arrangement of the mixtures, and that static and dynamic free volumes are linked. These results provide a link between the structures of ionic liquid mixtures, the thermodynamics of mixing and their physicochemical properties.
一个国际研究团队探究了离子液体混合物的形成对其结构和物理化学性质的影响。他们通过SAXS、PALS和129Xe-NMR技术对离子液体的空间排列和自由体积进行研究,结果表明阴离子的尺寸对混合物的空间排列影响最大,并与其静态和动态自由体积相关。该研究成果将离子液体混合物的结构与其混合的热力学及物理化学性质很好地关联起来。
