Since 2018, King & Wood Mallesons' Environment and Climate Change team has been invited to serve as the exclusive contributor for Thomson Reuters, a renowned legal information service company, in the field of environmental law in China. KWM contributes to the chapter titled "Environmental Law and Practice in China: Overview" of the legal practice guide "Practical Law Country Q&A", published by Thomson Reuters, and provides annual updates to this chapter. Recently, Thomson Reuters released an updated version of "Environmental Law and Practice in China: Overview" (last updated in October 2024). This chapter offers a comprehensive overview of environmental law and regulation in China, addressing topics such as China's environmental regulatory framework, environmental permitting, water pollution and abstraction, air pollution, climate change, renewable energy, energy efficiency, environmental impact assessment, biodiversity, waste and the circular economy, soil contamination, environmental liabilities related to asset and equity transfers, environmental information reporting and auditing, and environmental tax.

In the contribution and updates during the past years, KWM's Environment and Climate Change team has demonstrated its extensive experience and familiarity with cutting-edge issues in this area. For example, the 2024 annual update primarily focuses on the hot topics such as the national climate change strategy, carbon emissions trading, greenhouse gases voluntary emission reduction trading, carbon emission information disclosure, and greenwashing.
