Aim & Scope
We invite papers focusing on understanding the realities of shrinking cities and towns, the practical challenges posed by shrinkage, and policies or revitalization planning strategies required to avoid out-and-out shrinkage. We encourage submissions that address the following questions:
1) to what extent and where are shrinking cities and towns in a region or country?
2) How shrinking cities and towns are perceived in developing countries?
3) in what ways shrinking cities and towns could be regarded as the new spaces to be revitalized?
4) what are the roles of planning in a shrinking city to the challenges of shrinkage?
And 5) What new policy and strategies do new or improved modes of governance and planning bring for policymaking to better respond to shrinkage?
In this theme issue, articles contribute to reflect on the analysis of shrinking cities and towns for the planning and policy response to the challenges of shrinkage, as well as for theory development for urban studies, planning and geography.
