The position of In-house Translator is part of the Shanghai Linguist Team which provides various linguist services such translation, editing and proofreading of IPO-related financial publications to client in a timely manner. The position requires superb English and Chinese translation ability.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform English to Traditional Chinese (Hong Kong) & Simplified Chinese for Mainland China (and vice versa) linguistic tasks including translation, proofreading and quality assurance checks for Hong Kong IPO prospectuses and other related legal/financial documents.
- Perform glossary compilation and update according to industry standards and best practices
- Edit the translation done by Donnelley’s in-house linguists or external linguists
- Address translation queries and comments raised by both internal and external clients to optimize clients’ satisfactory level of translation services delivered the company.
- Monitor project status on a daily basis, ensuring project schedules are met at all times, take relevant actions to address any potential risk of any project
- Report/ escalate to line manager if there’s any potential risk of a project that might lead to service issue
- Shift work and overtime work are required
- 5.5 day work week (rotational Saturday work), Hong Kong public holidays
SKILLS and COMPETENCES
- Well-versed in written Hong Kong Chinese, native Mandarin speakers are welcome
- Demonstrating a commitment to quality
- Great attention to detail
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in Chinese and English
- Ability to meet deadlines under pressure
- Proficiency in MS Office applications, including WORD, EXCEL & POWERPOINT, and Acrobat
- Working knowledge of Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) tools such as Trados is a plus
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor degree in translation/English/linguistics
- Junior Translators Min 2 years / Senior Translators Min 5 years' experience as a translator and/or an editor with specialism in Hong Kong financial and legal documents required by stock exchanges and regulators such as IPO prospectuses, mutual fund offering documents, annual reports, etc.
