本以为此事就此结束，甚至为自己帮助学生而感到些许成就感。 然而，学生随后甩出一张截图，显示“这是Google Ngram Viewer给的数据”，该工具认为应使用“is”而非“are”。

为此，我决定专门写一篇公众号文章来回应。根据朗文字典，其例句无一例外地使用了“are”：

例句1: An increasing number of women are entering the profession. (number 词条)

例句2: An increasing number of people are consulting their accountants about the tax laws. (consult词条)

就在我敲下这些文字时，Grammarly软件突然弹出提示，建议“the tax laws”中的“the”应去掉。
