Differences in entrepreneurial affect over time and space in Chinese cities, and its impact on regional entrepreneurship
CHEN Guangping, WANG Chen, ZHANG Jia

Abstract: Entrepreneurial affect (EA) is an individual′s subjective experience and sense of entrepreneurship, which reflects social acceptance of entrepreneurs and their entrepreneurial activities. Based on over 368.2 thousand textual data of "entrepreneurship" on Sina Weibo from 2014 to 2018, this paper employs natural language processing (NLP) techniques, textual data analysis, and spatial analysis to quantitatively measure EA in 192 Chinese cities and analyze the overall characteristics and spatio-temporal distribution differences of positive and negative EA. The panel fixed effect model is used to investigate the effect of EA on regional entrepreneurship at the prefecture level. The results show that: (1) Individual′s EA is affected by entrepreneurial social network, entrepreneurial experience, entrepreneurial motivation, entrepreneurial environment, entrepreneurial mode, and so on, among which the word "friend" has the highest word frequency, indicating that non-kinship acquaintance is the most important factor. According to the semantic network analysis, individuals with positive EA are more concerned about investment prospects and the significance of entrepreneurial platforms, whereas those with negative EA may be more concerned about issues related to entrepreneurial costs, such as housing prices and rents. (2) At prefecture level, positive EA presents a spatial pattern of "high in the south, low in the north" and "high in coastal areas, low in inland areas". Chinese urban residents′ overall EA tends to wane over time, giving rise to the phenomenon of geographical polarization. Interestingly, cities such as Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Zhuhai in the Pearl River Delta region, as well as Hangzhou, Nanjing, Suzhou, and Ningbo in the Yangtze River Delta region, have long been "paradise" for entrepreneurs. (3) The model results suggest that positive EA can significantly stimulate regional entrepreneurship, and the larger the share of positive EA in a region, the more favorable to regional entrepreneurship improvement. The government′s entrepreneurial intervention can positively regulate EA and stimulate local entrepreneurship, while the negative EA brought by excessive housing prices will considerably discourage entrepreneurship. Based on the textual data analysis, this study quantitatively demonstrates the impact of EA on regional entrepreneurship, which can provide references for the adjustment of regional entrepreneurial policies, the creation of a favorable entrepreneurial atmosphere in the region, and the adjustment of individual entrepreneurial emotions.

New urbanization promoting the construction of water ecological civilization: Mechanism of influence and spatial effects

ZHANG Shengwu, HAN Ri, LI Xiaosheng, SONG Malin, LIU Haimeng*

Abstract: New urbanization is an important carrier of ecological civilization construction. How to promote the construction of water ecological civilization through new urbanization is a major practical problem facing the Huaihe River Eco-economic Belt in the process of modernization in which people and nature live together in harmony. This study empirically examined the mechanism of influence and spatial effects of urbanization on the construction of water ecological civilization using a spatial econometric model based on the urban panel data of the Huaihe River Eco-economic Belt from 2006 to 2020. The results are as follows: 1) The impact of comprehensive urbanization and population urbanization on the construction of water ecological civilization in the Huaihe River Eco-economic Belt follows a typical environmental Kuznets curve, exhibiting a "U"-shaped relationship. The urbanization restrains the construction of water ecological civilization in its early stage of development. Once the level of urbanization reaches a certain threshold, this effect will become positive. 2) The urbanization of population in each city has reached the inflection point value in 2014, while the comprehensive urbanization level has not yet reached the inflection point, therefore it is necessary to speed up the conversion of the transferred agricultural population into urban residents and effectively promote the new urbanization with people as the core. 3) The urbanization of the Huaihe River Eco-economic Belt has a significant inverted "U"-shaped spillover effect on water ecological civilization construction. Meanwhile, water ecological civilization construction in the region exhibits a negative spatial spillover effect. Therefore, the Huaihe River Eco-economic Belt should establish a sound system for the protection of water ecological civilization and strengthen the coordinated construction of urbanization and water ecological civilization in order to enhance the quality of new urbanization development and create an ecological demonstration belt that is harmonious between humans and water. This study offers a new perspective for analyzing the interplay between urbanization and water resource, and provides theoretical reference and empirical evidence for leveraging the new urbanization to promote the construction of water ecological civilization.

Spatial and temporal characteristics of intercity green technology flows and emission reduction effects in the Yangtze River Economic Belt

JIN Hong, DUAN Dezhong*

Abstract: Accelerating the flow of green technology to enhance the sharing of green technologies among cities is not only a key measure to implement the green development strategy and achieve the dual carbon goals, but also a key step to promote the cross-regional flow of factors and build a large national unified market. This study examined the intercity green technology flow by intercity green patent transfer, and analyzed the spatiotemporal evolution patterns of intercity green technology flow in the Yangtze River Economic Belt from 2001 to 2020 with the help of big data mining and GIS spatial analysis. The emission reduction effects of green technology flow was studied from the perspective of technology agglomeration. This study found that: 1) The green technology flow within the Yangtze River Economic Belt was mainly dominated by the Yangtze River Delta region, and the level of cross-regional green technology flow was low. From the perspective of flow directions, cross-regional green technology diffusion has experienced the development path of random flow → agglomeration to the Yangtze River Delta → mixed flow. 2) The Yangtze River Economic Belt green technology diffusion activities at the national level were highly concentrated in the Yangtze River Delta region, with the Chengdu-Chongqing region gradually emerging, while the Beijing-Tianjin region and the Pearl River Delta were the main partners in the flow of green technologies of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, thus forming a rhombic network with the Beijing-Tianjin, Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta, and Chengdu-Chongqing regions as the hubs. 3) The regression results show that there was a scale threshold effect in the local emission reduction effect brought about by green technologies acquired from the outside, that is, local carbon emission reduction can only be realized after the green technologies acquired from the outside has reached a certain scale.

Night Tourism Satisfaction in the Qinghefang Tourism and Leisure Block based on an Improved Kano Model

ZHU Xi, LIU Min*, SUN Yadong, ZHANG Ruixin, GOU Haixia

Abstract: Night tourism prolongs the activity time of tourism and leisure blocks, while tourism and leisure blocks provide activity places for night tourism. This study introduces the Kano model into the field of satisfaction research, makes improvements according to its advantages and disadvantages, builds an evaluation index system for night tourism satisfaction in tourism and leisure blocks, and combines that system with a questionnaire to determine the priority for optimizing each factor using the main and vice qualities, dispersion degree, and sensitivity comparison analysis. Based on the results, several optimization suggestions are proposed. The results show that: (1) Night tourism in Qinghefang groups mainly involves young people; (2) The overall satisfaction level is relatively high; (3) One attractive factor, seven one-dimensional factors, ten indifference factors, and three reverse factors in four layers (facility, service, experience, and project) were identified; (4) The priority for improvement should be service layer > facility layer > experience layer > project layer; (5) Background music, cultural connotation, festival projects, etc. are favored by visitors; and (6) Transportation, service attitude, and the sense of participation urgently require optimization.
