The Seventh "21st Century UrbanDevelopment" International Conference Notice
(First Draft)
Conference Theme
Metropolis Planning and SpatialGovernance
Sincethe 21st century, the rapid development of metropolis has become a salientfeature of urbanization of China, andthe metropolitanisation of these metropolises has extensively occurred.Developed countries’ experience in urban development indicates that: It wouldbe a high-probability event that metropolis and its surrounding areas wouldcome into being development community and form integrative metropolitan area,as metropolis developing to a certain stage and overflowing its economic andsocial development factors to the surrounding areas. At present,"metropolitan area", a kind of development pattern, has arisenwidely, especially in the eastern coastal areas of China as well apart ofmetropolises in the central and western China. Due to paucity of planningguidance and effective regulation, metropolitan areas haven’t fully fulfilled theirrole in China’s regional development. Therefore, National New Urbanization Plan (2014-2020)points out that, metropolis should evacuate economic function and other functions appropriately, push labor-intensive processing industry outward, enhance the sharing ofinfrastructure and public service with surrounding towns, promote the diffusionof the central-city function to one-hour traffic circle area, and further cultivatethe formation of commute efficient and integrative development of themetropolitan area.
Underthe background of development transformation in China, the implementation ofnational strategy requires metropolis to undertake greater global, national andregional tasks. How does metropolis change development path, cultivate newfunctions and promote space reconstruction? What stage does metropolis need to reach, further to help it develop towards metropolitan area? What kind of mechanism topromote the integration of metropolitan area, and how to resonate with thenatural ecosystem?......There is scant theoretical and empirical discussionregarding to the answers of above-mentioned questions.
TheSeventh "21st Century Urban Development" International Conferencewill open a forum to discuss and make dialogue with the theme of"Metropolitan Planning and Space Governance".
