5月9日，央行公布最新数据显示，4月社会融资规模增量为1.36万亿元，低于3月的2.86万亿元。社会融资总量（total social financing, TSF）反映实体经济从金融系统获得的资金总额，是反映宏观经济冷暖的最重要指标。

China’s total social financing grew last month by a net 1.36 trillion yuan, the equivalent of 200 billion dollars, central bank data showed Thursday.

The April figure was below analysts’ expectations and substantially lower than a net increase of 2.86 trillion yuan in March.

Total social financing, or TSF, is a broad measure of credit and liquidity in the economy.

TSF includes financing that exists outside the conventional bank lending system, such as IPOs and bond sales.

Last month, banks made 1.02 trillion yuan in net new yuan loans, also missing forecasts and down from 1.69 trillion yuan in March.

The year-on-year growth rate of outstanding M2, a broader measure of the money supply that covers all cash in circulation plus deposits, was down 0.1 percentage points last month from the previous month.

Things aren’t looking good for budget-conscious Chinese consumers.

Consumer inflation in China hit a six-month high last month, mainly driven by rising food prices, official data showed Thursday.

China’s consumer price index measures the prices of a basket of consumer goods and services. It rose 2.5 percent year-on-year last month, a high not seen since an identical growth rate in October. The reading was up from a 2.3 percent rise the previous month, which was already a five-month high.

The producer price index, which tracks the prices of goods circulated among manufacturers and mining companies, inched up 0.9 percent year-on-year, the highest in four months. That compared with a 0.4 percent increase in March.

The legal team of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou has argued in Canadian court that Meng should be granted a stay of extradition proceedings, on the basis of statements made by U.S. President Donald Trump that imply her arrest was “politically motivated.”

Meng’s defense lawyers made the argument at the British Columbia Supreme Court on Wednesday, where Meng was present for a hearing.

The Canadian court granted Meng’s request to move from her current residence to a newly renovated 10 million dollar mansion for “greater privacy.”

She is currently under house arrest in Canada pending resolution of her extradition case. In December, Meng was arrested in Vancouver by Canadian authorities at the request of the U.S., which is seeking her extradition on fraud charges.

Meng’s lawyers on Wednesday did not say when they would apply for the stay of the extradition hearing

But Meng is set to next appear in court in September, when her defense will make more applications for further disclosure of details surrounding her arrest at the Vancouver airport. The entire extradition process could take years.

Huawei is the world's largest producer of telecom equipment. The U.S. has been pushing its Western allies to block the Chinese company from their telecom networks, citing security concerns.

China has said it will take necessary countermeasures if the U.S. moves to increase tariffs on Chinese products.

The Ministry of Commerce said in a statement late Wednesday, quote, “The escalation of trade friction is not in the interest of both countries and the world. China is deeply regretful.” The U.S. is set to raise tariffs from 10 to 25 percent on Chinese products worth 200 billion dollars annually starting Friday.

The new policy announced Wednesday follows a March decision to cut subsidies for other new-energy vehicles by 50 percent.

The March policy didn’t mention how subsidies for public buses would be affected, sparking speculation that the sector may face smaller cuts.

However, the latest circular indicates policymakers will make no exception.

The guidelines are open for public comment until May 26.
