Turkish imported scrap prices rose sharplyon Wednesday as a result of Turkish mills’ acceptance of higher offers.

A Turkish mill bought a cargo from a USsupplier that consists of 24,000 tonnes of HMS 1&2 80:20 at $268/tonne cfrTurkey, 12,000t of shredded at $273/t and 4,000t ofbonus at $278/t.

Another mill in northern Turkey bought acargo from St. Petersburg comprising 17,000t of HMS 80:20 at $273/t, 14,000tshredded at $278/t cfr and 4,000t of busheling at $283/t cfr. The previousSt-Petersburg-origin HMS 80:20 scrap deal was sold at $251/t cfr last week.

Short-sea scrap bookings, except fromRussia, have been bought by Turkish mills at $260/t, Kallanish notes.

Following these bookings, US-origin scrapsuppliers are heard to have offered HMS 80:20 at above $275/t cfr, whileEU-origin suppliers are offering at above $270/t cfr in the Turkish market.
