Org. Setting and Reporting

The internship programme is for a period of two to six months depending on the needs of the division. The intern is to report to Human Resources Officer in the Organizational Development and Staffing Unit (ODSU) in the Human Resources Management Section (HRMS) of the Division of Administration (DA).


The internship is UNPAID and full-time.


Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the Division of Administration, but they may undertake flexible working arrangements, subject to certain conditions.

Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will vary and depend on the individual’s background. Daily duties may include:

• Assisting in social media outreach (Twitter, LinkedIn)

• Implementing and maintaining social networking campaigns

• Conducting recruiting outreach

• Assisting with communication materials related to recruitment

• Coordinating with different stakeholders

• Compiling statistics related to recruitment

• Generating a variety of standard data entry using databases in Excel

• Providing administrative support to ongoing projects

Competencies

The United Nations Core Competencies include:

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

• Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;

• Be computer literate in standard software applications;

• Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and

• Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme. However, for the purpose of this internship, a keen interest in Media Communications related to Human Resources recruitment beyond the standard applications is a definite advantage.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.

The Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Children and Armed Conflict (CAAC) internship is for six months, although a shorter period of time would also be considered. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict.

Responsibilities

Duties may include, but are not limited to:• Support the Office in various research related assignments including an ongoing analysis of Security Council action on Children and Armed Conflict.• Support to country teams, researching background documents and serving as principal note taker during interviews and meetings.• Perform analytical research as required.• Support drafting of technical documents and assist in drafting related reports.• Assist in the organization of seminars, working groups and expert meetings.• Perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background and the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period. The intern will be working within a dynamic team and

may also contribute to the work of other sections within the division and with ESCAP's strategic partner - UNITAR's operational satellite applications programme (UNOSAT).


Depending on the intern's background, duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

- Assist research on new and innovative technologies being used for disaster risk management and Sustainable Development (SD), with a particular focus on geospatial information, aerial

imagery and mapping, and their potential applications.

- Perform geospatial analysis using remote sensing techniques for various applications relating to Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and SD.

The internship is in the Web Services Section of the News and Media Division of the Department of Public Information. The section is responsible for the design, development, maintenance and overall support of the UN's flagship public Internet website, www.un.org and many related sub sites that are managed by DPI.


The internship is for two (2) months with an opportunity for extension up to six months, depending on the needs of the division and availability of the candidate.
