I met HEC counselors for the first time in a short meeting session at our school back in grade 11. Despite the brevity of our session, the guidance and support I received regarding college applications were very helpful. They gave very thoughtful advice that were backed by their experiences with other students. I got the impression that HEC counselors were very professional, experienced, and had a deep understanding of the college application process.

I had some pressures with standardized testing. This was mainly because I took the tests in grade 11 and 12 so I didn't have a lot of time to prepare and I couldn't take it multiple times.

I think that most standardized tests are only checking for your academic skills that you already develop at school. Thus, I think that it is important to focus on how to convert these abilities into the standardized tests.

我在标化考试中确实遇到了一些压力，主要因为我是到了11年级和12年级的时候才参加考试，所以没有太多时间准备，也没有机会多考几次。

I was involved in a variety of activities, both within and outside of school. These ranged from participation in extracurricular clubs and sports teams at school, to volunteering within our local community. Gideon emphasized the importance of consistency in these activities. He explained that ongoing, regular engagement in these activities was key to showing my commitment.

Looking back, I think that it's important to focus on activities that you genuinely enjoy and feel personally connected to. I think these activities will best show your passions and your attributes for colleges.

My personal statement was about the internal conflict between religion and science and the ways I overcame these struggles. As a student planning to major in biological sciences, I wanted this essay to showcase my scientific thinking and my unique perspective as a religious person.

My initial brainstorming session with Gideon played a crucial role in shaping the narrative of my personal statement. We explored several prompts, delving deep into my experiences and their potential relevance to each topic. Gideon provided a lot of feedback, explaining why certain stories were stronger, and emphasized the need of authenticity. The topic we finally settled on was a deeply personal one: my struggles to reconcile my faith with my scientific pursuits. While this was a challenging topic, it was one that truly reflected my experiences. Looking back, other ideas that we discussed during our sessions didn't go to waste but found their place in my college-specific essays.

Whilst writing the personal statement, I received a lot of help both in terms of content and language. I was provided with samples of strong personal statements for reference and Gideon had me write multiple drafts to ensure that my drafts stayed focused on the chosen narrative. His detailed approach to language was also helpful. Beyond simple grammar corrections, Gideon offered valuable advice to improve the readability and impact of my essays.

Before meeting HEC, I hadn’t spent a lot of time exploring different colleges and researching their strengths and features. I think I was often misled by rankings or inaccurate information. In this regard, HEC was an invaluable resource, providing me with updated, comprehensive information about the colleges best suited for my chosen major, the application requirements, and more. I especially appreciated the respect that both Gideon and Hope showed towards my thoughts and preferences. They didn't push me to apply to a specific school, but rather supported my decisions while offering their honest and insightful advice.

HEC also ensured that I stayed on schedule. They started the preparations for applications early, enabling me to begin working on my applications during the summer between grade 11 and 12. This was very beneficial in that I had more time to work on my application, without rushing.

The application process was a challenging period for me, as I had to balance my academic responsibilities with the demands of college applications. At times, I found myself less attentive than I should have been, delaying tasks, not finishing essays promptly, or even forgetting to send scores. However, Gideon and Hope helped me with these challenges. Their patience and consistent reminders about deadlines, along with their guidance on portal setups, score sending, college-specific essays, activity lists, and application submissions, kept me on the right path. Without their assistance, I could have easily made significant errors during the application process. Even after applying, they helped me with setting up portals and sending supplement materials.

在认识哈斯老师之前，我并没有花很多时间去探索不同的大学，研究它们的优势和特点，反而经常被排名或不准确的信息误导。在这方面， 哈斯可以说是我的 宝贵资源 ，老师们为我提供了最新、最全面的信息，包括我所选专业比较强的大学和申请要求等等。我特别欣赏 Gideon 和 Hope 的一点是，他们对我的想法和喜好给予了十足的 尊重 ，从不会强迫我申请特定的学校，而是支持我的决定，同时提供了真诚而有见地的建议。

申请季对我来说是一个充满挑战的时期，我必须在本校的学业和大学的申请要求之间取得平衡。在过程中我也有不够专注的时候，耽误了工作，没有及时完成文书，甚至是忘记寄送标化考试的分数。 幸好有Gideon和Hope一直在我身边，帮助我应对这些挑战。他们很耐心，不断提醒我即将到来截止日期，在很多琐碎的问题上，比如设立申请账户、考试分数寄送、大学的特定文书、活动列表和申请提交等方方面面，都给予我充分的指导，让我始终走在 正确的道路 上。如果没有他们的帮助，我很有可能会在申请过程中出现重大失误。即便是在提交申请之后，两位老师还一直帮助我设置账户和会给大学发送补充材料。
