When I was about seven, I was convinced the house was burning down. I could sense it. Not a hallucination, just a tightening in my chest, feeling I couldn't breathe, like the world was going to end.
大概在我七岁的时候，我深信房子就要烧毁了，我能感觉到。那不是幻觉，就是一种压在我胸口的紧张感，觉得自己要无法呼吸，好像整个世界要毁灭了一样。
因为内心的紧张和焦虑感，她会觉得不安，最严重的时候甚至无法正常去上学。
I would ask my mom a hundred times how the day was gonna lay out. What time was she gonna drop me off? Where was she gonna be? What would happen at lunch? Feeling nauseous. At a certain point, I couldn't go to friends' houses anymore – I could barely get out the door to school.
我会反反复复地问妈妈一天怎么安排。什么时候她会离我而去，她要去哪里，午餐的时候会发生什么。感觉恶心。有段时间，我都不能去朋友们家玩，我几乎无法出门，没法去学校。
父母察觉到她的情况，带她去看了治疗师，这对她帮助很大。

I drew a little green monster on my shoulder that speaks to me in my ear and tells me all those things that aren't true. And every time I listen to it, it grows bigger. If I listen to it enough, it crushes me.

I started acting at this youth theater, doing improv and sketch comedy. You have to be present in improv, and that's the antithesis of anxiety.

就这样，艾玛爱上了表演，还找了个表演老师正儿八经地学习。
14岁那年，艾玛从学校退学了，她一心想去好莱坞做一名女演员。

I have a revelation that I needed to move to Los Angeles as soon as possible because that's where I needed to go. I know, it was crazy.

她做了一个PPT，试图说服父母，PPT的标题就是“Project Hollywood”（好莱坞计划）。
According to her plan, she and her mom would leave for L.A. as soon as possible, while her dad stayed behind to run his business. As for her education, she would have to be homeschooled between auditions.
根据她的计划，她和母亲会一块儿尽快搬去洛杉矶，父亲则留在家里照料生意。至于教育问题，她会一边试镜一边在家自学。
没想到，父母竟然同意了这个疯狂的计划！

然而，一切并不像计划中那么顺利。和《爱乐之城》女主角的经历一样，好莱坞迎接艾玛的就是一次又一次的试镜失败。
Emma spent more than three years auditioning for “whatever [she] could get” without the payoff she was hoping for. “Nothing really worked out,” she admitted, “So I think, yeah, facing rejection day after day can be really, really tough.”
艾玛曾经有三年多到处试镜，无论多小的角色，只要有戏演，报酬也可以不要。但是她承认，“没有什么实质进展，我就感到，是的，每一天都被拒真的真的很难受。”
Like her barista alter-ego in the musical, Stone supplemented her income by working side jobs — in her case, at a gourmet dog-biscuit bakery.
