第一句， Not_a lot is known_about how thetransportation_ofgoods by water first began.

Not a lot 可以快读，于是 not 和 a 连起来读成 no ta 。 很多同学会问，所有的词都要连起来读吗？不是，连读的条件是第一：同一意群，第二：语速较快。所以不同意群的词语连起来读，或者语速很慢时连起来读都会很奇怪。这里 not a lot 是属于一个意群里的，同时又是弱读词语，所以我们尽可能连读。接着 transportation of goods 中 transportation 和 of 符合连读要求，同时 of 又是个介词，能快读则快读，于是连读成 transportatio nəv, transportatio nəv 。

第二句， Large cargoboats were beingused_in some parts_ofthe world / up to five thousandyears_ago.

parts of the world 中 part 后有表示复数的’ s’ ， /t/ 和 /s/ 音放在一块会发生同化，于是发成 c， 类似于中文中呲牙咧嘴的“呲”。 Parts， parts， 紧随其后的是 of， 刚刚说过虚词要快读，而且满足连读的要求，于是连读成 par cəv ， par cəv 。接着在 world 之后可以断一下，给自己争取合理喘息的时间，此处断句是因为后面是个比较长的时间状语， up to five thousand years ago 。所以我们读成 some parts_ofthe world / up to five thousand years_ago。years ago 是一个很常见的表达。它的连读希望大家如果今后还有遇到的话，能够脱口而出： year z əˈgoʊ, year z əˈgoʊ 。

第三句， However, seatrade became morewidespread / when large sailing boats travelled between ports, carryingspices, perfumes and_objects madeby hand.

sea trade 中 trade 的结尾音要失去爆破，避免舌头打结，读成 sea tra ， sea tra ， sea trade became 。与之相似的是最后一个短语 made by hand 中 made 的 /d/ 可以失去爆破音 /d/ 即不读 ， 于是应该读成 ma by hand ， ma by hand 。
