Green Initiatives’ [WE] Project expands to nearby Suzhou areas, thanks to partnerships with Duke Kunshan University, China’s first LEED-certified university campus, and German Villa.

Duke Kunshan University (DKU)
is a partnership of Duke University and Wuhan University, offering a range of academic programs for students from China and throughout the world. DKU’s 200-acre, state-of-the-art campus is located in Kunshan, China and is the first LEED-certified university campus in China. It also home to the Environmental Research Center, an independent research institution that integrates research and educational programs on environmental science and policy.

German Villa
is the first residential compound to support the WE project. Located near Jinji Lake and Suzhou Industrial Park, German Villa is a beautiful green compound with 188 families. Members of a neighborhood committee are also active volunteers at Green Initiatives and the
Expatriate Association of Suzhou (EAS)
thrift shop, a charity shop located within German Villa. At the launch event, there were over 50 participants, not only from German Villa, but also from other nearby residential communities and representatives from NGOs and government agencies. A volunteer group consisting of kids went door to door and picked up e-waste from residents. Rae, a member of EAS and resident at German Villa said

The [WE] Project
was launched by
Green Initiatives
in June 2016 to address irresponsible dumping of electronic waste in landfills as well as informal recycling. To provide a safe and convenient way to dispose e-waste, collection boxes are placed in public locations or within the sponsors’ premise. Through partnership with TES, a company specializing in IT waste management, collected items are picked up every few months and brought to their certified dismantling factory.
