I remember what a great time I had in 2008 when I was here watching the Olympic table tennis semi-finals between China and South Korea.

As China’s economy is maturing, it’s making bold and difficult decisions on things like energy and pollution. And it’s assuming a greater role in critical issues like climate and development.

In some rich countries, there is skepticism about globalization. The results of the U.S. presidential election and the Brexit vote in the UK, both seem to underscore a rise of turning inward on issues like migration, security, and perhaps even global development.
一些富裕国家对全球化的质疑声增多。美国总统大选和英国脱欧公投的结果，也印证了在移民、安全和全球发展等议题上，这些国家战略转向国内的倾向日益显现。
It’s great to see China stepping up to engage even more with other countries. It is greatly equipped to do so.

No other country has accomplished what China has achieved in the last few decades – breaking the relentless cycle of poverty and disease for hundreds of millions of people while modernizing its economy at a scale and speed unprecedented in human history.

China has long understood that helping other countries lift themselves out of poverty creates a stable and secure world for people everywhere.

This is a pretty incredible time to be a young person in China. Your generation’s entrance into the workforce will coincide with your country’s rise as a center of global progress and innovation.

The world’s eyes are on China... and as a new generation comes of age, the world’s eyes are specifically on all of you.

❻ 接下来，盖茨分别从健康、农业、能源和技术等四个方面阐释了当代青年应如何用青春的热情和所受的教育，为人类发展贡献力量。当然，也谈了自己创办的公益活动将如何在这四个方面与中国展开合作。
So, I want to spend the rest of my comments focusing on four areas where I think there are exciting opportunities to use your education, your passion, and opportunities to unlock more amazing progress – for both China and for the world. Specifically, health, agriculture, energy, and technology.

Professor Tu was, of course, recognized for her discovery of artemisinin, the powerful medicine used to treat malaria. It was one of the most significant breakthroughs in tropical medicine in the 20th century and it has saved millions of lives.

Just learning about something, lending your voice, or volunteering your time is important.

A: Dropping out of school.

A: I stay up too late. You know, ‘cause I’m reading something interesting. And the next day I think oh why don’t I go to bed earlier. I should have more discipline.

Q: What's your definition of success?
你对成功的定义是什么？
A: Whether people close to you love you and feel you support them.

Q: Is there any pressure from having so much money?
您这么有钱压力大吗？
A: There’s a responsibility to give back to society in a smart way. Sometimes the visibility - I worry that my children get a distorted experience from people coming up to me or expecting certain things from them. But overall, I feel very lucky that I have the chance to give back.
这意味着你有责任以明智的方式用它回报社会。但是有的时候可能曝光度太高了，我担心我的孩子们会受到影响，人们对他们有特别的期待。不过总的来讲，我觉得有机会捐献自己的财富是一件非常幸运的事了。
Q: Many Chinese often see programmers as guys wearing glasses and checkered shirts who always stay in and tend to start a romantic relationship later in life. Do you see yourself like that?
在很多中国人的心目当中，程序员就是那些戴着眼镜、穿着格子衬衫，待在家里的宅男，很晚才开始一段感情，您自己是不是这样的？
A: Well, I was kind of a nerdy guy. I wasn’t good at talking to girls. And my social skills were really late developed, if they ever did. So yeah, maybe.
我也曾算是个书呆子，以前也不太擅于和女孩说话，我的社交技能发展得比较晚。所以，答案可能是“也许”吧。
Q: What would you do if you could go back and be a 20-year-old again?
如果您可以回到过去，回到20岁的时候，您会做什么呢？
A: I guess I would work on AI.

Q: Who is your best friend?

A: Other than my wife, I’d say Warren Buffett.

Q: Do you wish that your kids would carry on what you do?

A: No. They will have their own abilities. It’s not a dynasty. Their skills, their interests. Their father shouldn’t determine what they do. I’m glad they didn’t.

Q: We know you have quite a lot of hobbies, such as reading and learning. So what's the last book you read?

A: It's called Strangers in Their Own Land. And it's about the divide between the right wing and left wing in the United States right now.

A: The Art of Computer Programming by Donald Knuth. It's very profound volume that not enough people read.

A: Well, Manchester By the Sea, that was very good. I saw that a few weeks ago.

A: Some. Online bridge is the primary one.

A: WeChat has been incredibly innovative. As you see, with my annual letter I joined, this is my WeChat account.

Q: Have you ever talked about China with President Trump?
有没有跟特朗普总统提到过中国？
A: Yes. I think the US-China relationship is very important. Understanding each other could help each other more. In some ways, some things are likely to change. I think we should both take a long term view. It's a strong win-win relationship, despite some tensions.
有。我觉得中美关系是非常重要的，我觉得相互理解很重要，比如在哪些领域是可以互相帮助的，在哪些领域是较难改变的。我们双方都需要一个长远的眼光，中美一直保持很强的双赢关系，尽管还存在一些紧张因素。
