A great success of quantum field theory methods lies in their ability to directly obtain the effective theory, where all degrees of freedom have been integrated out, starting from a UV complete framework. In this talk I will describe a new approach to combine path integral methods with loop quantum gravity (LQG). Our approach builds on the coherent state path integral formulation of LQG to compute the one-loop effective action. We highlight the differences between our approach and the standard Feynman-prescribed path integral. This investigation has two main goals: to compare our results with the divergences found in the one-loop calculations of Einstein gravity, and to begin to explore the IR effective properties of LQG.
