This is teacher Nelli, one of the superstar teachers here at 51 Talk.

同学们大家好！

我是Nelli老师，51Talk超级外教中的一员。

This week we will learn some expressions when you are at some places in town. Today let us listen to a dialogue between Louise and Julia .They are in the supermarket and they want to buy some things.

这周我们将会学习城市生活常用语。今天我们一起来听一段路易斯和茱莉娅之间的对话。他们在超市里想要买些东西。

LOUISE:     Hey, Julia … Look at those desserts! How about baking some cookies today?

路易斯：诶，茱莉娅…… 看看那些甜点！今天烤点点心怎么样？

JULIA:      Hmm … Yeah, that’s a great idea! While we’re here, let’s pick up the ingredients.

茱莉娅：嗯…… 好！好主意！趁着咱们在这，咱们买些食材吧。

LOUISE:   OK, what do we need?

路易斯：好的，咱们都需要什么呢？

JULIA:    The recipe calls for flour, sugar and butter. Oh, and we also need eggs and chocolate chips.

茱莉娅：菜谱上说面粉，糖还有黄油。哦，我们还需要鸡蛋和碎巧克力。

LOUISE:     Why don’t you get the dairy ingredients? You’ll find those in the refrigerated section in the back of the store. I’ll get the dry ingredients — they’re in aisle 10.

路易斯：你为啥不加上些奶制品呢？你能在这间店后面的冷冻区找到这些食材。我去找那些干食材-那些都在第十个过道。

JULIA:   Great! Let’s meet at the checkout.

茱莉娅：很好！咱们在收银台汇合。

LOUISE:   OK. See you there.

路易斯：好的。一会儿收银台见。

短文讲解：

How about

is a casual way to suggest doing an activity. Notice that “how about” is followed by an “-ing” verb.

How about 是一种比较随意的建议做某事的方式。留意“how about”后面跟的是动词ing。

The recipe calls for

is a way of saying “the recipe says we need.”

The recipe calls for 是一种说“菜谱上说我们需要”的方式。

The phrase “call for” can also be used to talk about the weather forecast. (They’re calling for rain.)

“call for”这个短语也可以用于天气预报。（They’re calling for the rain他们预计会有雨)

Why don’t you …

This expression is used to ask someone to do something. It can also be used to give advice — but in this case two friends are deciding on who does which task.

这个表达用于让某人做某事，而且也能用于给出建议，但是在这里两位好朋友在决定分工。
