9:00-9:30 Opening Remarks / Introductions / Warm-Ups

9:30-10:30 Plenary – Motivation Moments—Heidi Healy

Motivation is important in language learning and yet it is difficult to motivate students, especially in an EFL setting where students are required to take English classes.  In this workshop the presenter will discuss 4 aspects of class design that teachers can use to increase motivation in their classrooms.  These four aspects include instructional design, learner autonomy, classroom environment and culture and teacher behaviors.

Room 1: Motivating by Integrating Arts—Paula Adams

In this interactive workshop, teachers will learn how to use the power of portraits to motivate their students to expand their vocabulary, activate their imagination and logic, and build an appreciation of art as “historical” social media.

Room 2: Motivating through Assessment—Ginelle Hanaway

CATs or Classroom Assessment Techniques are formative and used on an ongoing basis and provide the teacher with feedback about student learning. This workshop introduces the idea of CATs and how to use them. They can inform and motivate teachers and students throughout the learning process.
