The Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry is featuring a Special Issue entitled “Nutritional Modulation of the Gut Microbiome in Gastrointestinal and Metabolic Disease.” The overall goal of this issue is to bring attention to the latest work in gut microbiota research that establishes a connection between dietary- induced changes in the gut microbiota and the development of gastrointestinal and metabolic disease. To date, much research related to dietary-mediated alterations in the gut ecosystem has demonstrated associations between changes in the microbial profile with certain dietary conditions or disease states without clearly establishing a causative link between gut microbes and the disease process. Thus, we would like to highlight work that demonstrates causation between dietary-mediated changes in gut microbiota structure and function and how these changes consequently contribute to or prevent gastrointestinal health and metabolic disease. Submissions that include or discuss the latest sequencing and bioinformatic tools are encouraged.

Specifically, we wish to highlight work related to the following topics:

a. The influence of varying levels of macronutrients, micronutrients, or polyphenolic compounds on gut microbiota and host gastrointestinal and metabolic health.

b. Time-dependent associations in nutrient intake and changes in the gut microbiota such as hysteresis effects (i.e., Diet-switching studies) or circadian rhythm (i.e., Timed-feeding studies).

c. The impact of gene deficiency on diet-microbe interactions related to GI and metabolic disease development.

d. The role of these diet-microbe interactions on host measures such as the enteroendocrine system, enteric nervous system, and immune system in gastrointestinal (IBD) and metabolic disease (obesity, diabetes, and NAFLD) are welcomed.

Public Healthis preparing a special issue on the ‘Health of Indigenous Peoples’, which aims to bring together a collection of papers from across the world that celebrate resilience, resistance and resourcefulness of diverse Indigenous peoples in the pursuit of holistic health and wellbeing. This year, marks the tenth anniversary of the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples it is an opportunity to take stock and reflect on achievements in Indigenous health and the challenges ahead that need to be overcome.

We welcome empirical and conceptual papers from international public health academics, practitioners, researchers, service providers and policymakers, particularly those informed by Indigenous research methodologies. Themes likely to emerge include decolonisation, health inequalities and inequities, issues across the lifespan and genders, environmental health, leadership, promoting protective factors, healing and intergenerational trauma, and language revitalisation. We also welcome papers on health service innovation and intervention that include policy and/or service level responses

The Guest Editors are in the process of developing a list of potential authors and manuscripts. If you would like to be added to the list of potential contributors, please send to Guest Editors Denise Wilson ([email protected]), Heather Gifford ([email protected]) and Heather Came ([email protected]) a brief email including your name, affiliation and potential manuscript idea/title.
