求求你别再说「科技是一把双刃剑」了！

一谈到某事有利又有弊，99%的同学脑子里蹦出来的就是「...是把双刃剑」这句话，咱们先不说这个用法是不是烂大街了， 很多同学根本就没写对。

正确的写法应该是： sth is a two-edged / double-edged sword.

有两个要注意的地方：

①edge为名词，是「边缘，刀刃」的意思，two-edge d /double-edge d 为形容词，后面有d。

②sword是可数名词，要么以复数形式出现，要么加冠词。...是 一把 双刃剑，前面要加上a。

即使你写得完全正确，这个词也不能为你的作文加分，因为考官已经看腻了。

那怎么办呢？这里教给大家2个长年读外刊的人才知道的地道表达：

1. sth is a mixed blessing.

blessing是「好事，服气」的意思。马云在2019年曾说「996是福报」，外媒的翻译就是：996 is a huge blessing,

mixed 为形容词，指「混合的」。

a mixed blessing 连起来，便表示「利弊并存之事；祸福参半之事」，用于描述那些既有好处又有坏处的事物。英文解释为：something that has advantages and disadvantages。

sth is a mixed blessing 这个句型可以完美替换 sth is a double-edged sword, sth has advantages and disadvantages 这些烂大街的表达。

我们来看一些例子：

Getting into the team is a mixed blessing - I'll have to spend a lot of time training.

加入这支球队有好处也有坏处——我得花许多时间训练。

Like many technologies, AI could be a mixed blessing.

和众多技术一样， 人工智能既有利也有弊。

Having children so early in their marriage was a mixed blessing.

他们婚后不久就有了孩子，有好处也有坏处。

我们再来看一些外刊里的例句，大家仔细体会一下：

《经济学人》一篇关于医疗设备的文章有这样一句话：

Covid-19 has been a mixed blessing for makers of medical equipment.

再比如《金融时报》一篇关于中国二手车市场的文章有这样一句话：

Growth of second-hand sales in China is a mixed blessing for automakers. Sales of used cars have been biting into sales of low-end cars priced below Rmb150,000, said Jochen Siebert of consultancy JSC Automotive.

中国二手汽车销量的增长对汽车制造商来说有利有弊。咨询公司JSC Automotive的约亨•西伯特(Jochen Siebert)表示，二手车的销售一直在侵蚀价格低于15万元人民币的低端汽车的销售。

《金融时报》一篇关于富二代的文章也用到了这个词：

“Inherited wealth is a mixed blessing. 继承下来的 财富是一件好坏参半的事情。

家里有矿还不好？嗯...这例句...应该挺人印象深刻的...

2. sth is both a blessing and a curse.

我们刚刚讲过，blessing是「好事，福气」的意思，而curse是它的反义词，表示「祸根，祸因」。

sth is both a blessing and a curse. 便表示「某事既是福，又是祸」。这也是我在外刊里提炼出的一个句型， 我们来看一些例子。

《经济学人》一篇关于疫情期间人们心理状况的文章有这样一句话：

Solitude has always been both a blessing and a curse. 独处一直都有利也有弊。

再比如《金融时报》一篇关于防控疫情的文章有这样一段话：

However, the key point is that in spite of all the hype (and fear) about AI, Covid-19 is showing clearly that there are things a computer or app cannot do; or not alone. That is b oth a blessing and a curse as the western world contemplates how and when to “open up” after lockdowns.

然而，关键的一点是，尽管人们对人工智能大肆宣传（又感到恐惧），但新冠疫情清楚地表明，有些事情是电脑或应用程序做不到的，或者是单独做不到的。当西方世界思考如何以及何时在采取封锁措施后“解封”时，这可谓祸福参半。

我们再来造个句：在线教育既有利又有弊。

Online education is both a blessing and a curse .

最后，我们来总结一下，如何表达「某物既有利又有弊」？
