IoT and Intelligent Algorithms in Smart Cities' Transportation & Mobility

Energy consumption and sustainability are crucial aspects of smart cities' transportation and mobility activities. The integration of technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and data analytics presents opportunities to enhance the efficiency of these systems. This special issue aims to showcase research articles that contribute significant advancements in applying IoT and intelligent algorithms to freight transportation and citizens' mobility. Original articles exploring the combination of these topics are encouraged. The Guest Editors are particularly interested in contributions demonstrating how IoT can be combined with intelligent algorithms and advanced models, such as metaheuristics, simulation, and machine learning, to improve transportation and mobility operations in urban and peri-urban areas.

This special issue welcomes submissions exploring IoT's benefits in transportation and mobility while addressing challenges related to intelligent algorithms and data analytics. The topics encompass various areas, including the use of IoT and Open Data repositories to enhance city logistics and mobility, applications of metaheuristics in intelligent transportation systems, simulation and hybrid simulation-optimization models in smart cities, optimization of operations for self-driven and unmanned aerial vehicles, IoT and optimization algorithms for the Internet of Vehicles, algorithms, and IoT applied to new mobility modes like carsharing and ridesharing, optimizing energy consumption with IoT and intelligent algorithms, circular economy, and sustainability issues in smart cities.
