Your eyes do not deceive you. This man in a wheelchair is rock climbing. Lai chiwai is a four-time winner of the Asian Rock Climbing Championships and China’s first winner of the X-Games.A car accident in 2011 paralyzed him from the hip down, but the 35-year-old just won’t quit.
你的眼睛不会欺骗你。这个坐在轮椅上的人是攀岩运动员。黎志伟获得过四次亚洲攀岩锦标赛的冠军，也是中国首位获得X极限运动的冠军。2011年的一场车祸使他高位截瘫，但35岁的他就是不肯放弃。
“I love to rock climb, before there was a lot more freedom, I could go to various indoor climbing spaces, or if I wanted to go rock climbing outdoors I could do it whenever I wanted to. But now that I’m in a wheelchair, I need to consider a lot of things,is it appropriate for me to climb, is it safe, are people able to help me?Rock climbing in a wheelchair requires a lot of assistance. There are limits and it requires consideration of the conditions before I can climb,even though there’s a lot more hassle I can still do it, but it just requires the help of more people.”
我喜欢攀岩，之前我有更多的自由，我可以去各种室内攀岩场地，或者如果我想去户外攀岩的话，我可以随时去做。但是现在我坐在轮椅上，我需要考虑很多事情。我是否适合攀岩，是否安全，别人能帮我吗？在轮椅上攀岩需要很多协助。还有很多限度，在爬山之前我需要考虑一些条件，尽管还有很多麻烦，我仍然可以这样做，但是需要更多人的帮助。
After his injury Lai tried his head at boxing, fencing and table tennis, but he always came back to rock climbing.Then on the fifth anniversary of the accident that took the use of his legs Lai climbed nearly 500 meters to the top of Hong Kong’s Lion Rock.
他受伤后，曾经尝试过拳击、击剑和乒乓球等运动，但是他总会回到攀岩上。在那场夺去他双腿的事故发生五周年之后，他爬上了香港那座500米高的狮子山山顶。
“To me climbing to the top was accomplishing a dream of mine and it also—by climbing the mountain—meant that I could show to my friends and supporters that I have overcome one of the lowest points in life.Even through I’m in a wheelchair I can challenge other sports and still be able to do what I love most.”
